Finished up Thrawn a few weeks ago. As far as expanded stories go, it's right up there with Darth Bane for me. An excellent read, and one even casual Star Wars could enjoy. 7.5-8/10
I also read Alpha, a new novel by Greg Rucka. Essentially a Delta operator is planted, unbeknownst to his co-workers, inside a very large, very profitable amusement park to thwart a potential terrorist attack. Not a bad read, felt sort of like a Die Hard copy. 6.5/10
Reading now: The Killing Floor, which is Book 1 in the Jack Reacher series. Only about 15% done with it, but pretty good so far.

Volume Two of The Stormlight Archive just released this Tuesday! If your looking for a new saga to fill the void left by the ending of The Wheel of Time, I could not recommend this any more highly! And if you missed my previous posts on it, the first book is titled The Way of Kings.

Irish, The Way of Kings has been sitting in one of my Amazon wishlists for a while. Need to get around to that one at some point.
I just finished Die Trying, the second novel in the Jack Reacher series. They're a bit far fetched at times, but I'm enjoying them a surprising amount. The first book, Killing Floor, was a bit better though.
I'm currently reading the 2nd part of Under the Dome. They split it into 2 volumes and the 2nd part was released yesterday. The first volume covered up to the point of Barbie being arrested. I have some problems with the story so far, but I'm anxious to see the conclusion. I really liked the vibe from The Mist, and this has a similar feel to it, though less horror.

Great series. Would definitely work through those again at some point down the road.
Hopefully he picks the series up again. I think a prequel story about Brom would be awesome.

I absolutely love this series. I'm on the second one and it's just as great as the first time I read it years ago.
A prequel would be so awesome. I want to hear more about the relationship between Brom, Morzan and Selena. That whole triangle was quite interesting.
All in all, I want to see him return to the Eragon world. Be it a prequel or a continuation of the current story.

The Mist has been my favorite short story of his since I first read it about twenty years ago. I kinda groaned when I first learned they were making a movie out if it but I liked it. I think the movies based off his short stories have always turned out better,if not simply because there's just less for them to leave out or change around.

Agreed. The Mist is probably my favorite horror movie. As far as adaptation goes, it's one of the rare cases where I think the film is better than the source material.

I had to find the trailer for the movie. Now that I have seen it, I remember reading the book / novella years ago. It was VERY good. I also remember making a conscious decision not to see the movie because movies are NEVER as good as the book. From what you guys are saying - I may need to take a look.

There are some differences, so keep that aspect in mind. It did receive King's endorsement and he was enthralled by the ending. The movie's ending isn't the same as the book's ending.

Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins; it's the third and last of the Hunger Games book.
I enjoyed the second film a lot and didn't want to wait a year or more to find out the rest of the story so I grabbed this book. I'm close to the end now and it has been a great read. She maintains her simple, easy-to-read writing style while managing to again up the ante in terms of action, plots, character development, and some crazy twists & turns.
The first movie was pretty good, the second movie was better, but the books are superior by far. Anyone who remotely enjoyed either or both of the movies so far ought to give the novels a read.

I also enjoyed this series but I wouldn't call them novels. If one was so inclined, they could be read in a day a piece. Not very long from what I remember.
I know a books length doesn't usually determine if it's considered a novel or not but I would call it more of a novella.
