Really looking forward to the next one in November...
5/10
Perfect Storm, The (DVD) – works better than you’d think given its very simple premise and story. I credit this mostly to the solid performances from the leads, and some thrilling, suspenseful moments spread throughout. There are some parts of the movie that seem out of place, (why did they introduce the smaller boat?) but overall it’s pretty decent.
6/10
Seeking Justice (Blu-ray) – as weak as I thought it was, even it’s a step in the right direction for Cage, considering how weak some of his recent films have been. For the most part it’s a passable action/thriller, but there’s nothing at all to separate it from the horde of movies it borrows heavily from.
4/10
Killing Them Softly (DVD) – I didn’t think the story was all that great or original (it’s your pretty typical crime/drama), but I did enjoy the dialogue, acting and action sequences. I won’t spoil too much, as it’s still relatively new, but the scene where Pitt’s character kills someone in slow-mo is awesome.
6/10
Please/Give (DVD) – I had never even heard of this, but someone I’m close to recommended it so I decided to give it a shot. The cast is good, they perform well, and the story is nice and refreshing. There’s no real resolution to be had, though, as it plays out more like a television series. I don’t know, maybe I just wasn’t in the mood for it.
6/10
Silver Linings Playbook- 7/10, not bad and it definitely made my chick want the D
Now I know why everyone was telling me to see this--it really was a great meta-horror movie. I would have liked more interesting actors/characters and more story with the "twist" part but overall very fun. Recommended to anyone that has watched too many modern horror movies.
Iron Man 3 - 3.99/5 NNR
Enjoyed this, more than 2 but not quite as much as the first one. A little too long/the middle dragged a little. The brief scene after the credits wasn't worth the wait, I wanted an Avengers 2 tease. The preview trailer for Hunger Games 2 looked really good.
The Bourne Legacy - 6/10 - Some decent action but ultimately comes up short.
Double-D Lewis truly is the master. Fantastic supporting roles all around from Sally Field and Tommy Lee Jones to JG Levitt and James Spader. Got a kick out of seeing Walton Goggins again too. Of the 3 Best Picture noms I've seen now, I'd say this was more worthy than Argo.
I wanted to hate this movie so bad! I absolutely hated Jennifer Lawrence in every role up to this point. She was a terrible Mystique and the Hunger Games was trash but holy **** was this a good movie. It was not the stereotypical love story that Hollywood spews out 24/7 and Bradley Cooper was unexpectedly fantastic.
PS: It does make your date extremely horny as previously advertised.
