I love the story behind it, but it was a bit slow moving for me. Took all I had to not get all teary at the end though. It was bittersweet. It's one of those movies I feel like you wouldn't like unless you played the game.

I didn't even like the first one all that much.
After Earth - 7/10 - It was actually decent! Went in with super low expectations. Some spotty acting from Jaden but he pulls it together at the end. (Not amazing but definitely M.Night's best movie in a long time)
Dark Blue (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – Written by David Ayer (writer of Training Day), this is another cop/detective film set in L.A. during the early 90’s when corruption was at its highest. Things get a little convoluted after a bit, but it’s still an enjoyable dirty cop drama. If you like this particular genre (I do), you’ll find this to be adequate, but a bit too formulaic to be overly memorable. It’s on par with Street Kings, but not up there with Training Day. Kurt Russell helps to elevate it, and Brendan Gleeson (underrated) is great, too. I’d recommend it for fans of the genre.
6/10
The Frozen Ground (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – Watching this, I’m kind of surprised this didn’t receive a wider release, as it’s loaded with talent. Anyways, as long as you’re not expecting another Zodiac, you’ll find it enjoyable. There’s a little bit too much going on for its own good, but when it focuses on the cat and mouse aspect between Cage and Cusack it’s at its strongest. It’s a step in the right direction for Cage, as he’s much more controlled and normal here; definitely a more subdued performance for him. Hudgens plays another rough character (Spring Breakers being the other), and she does so surprisingly well. The movie tries to balance her struggles with the pursuit of the killer, and ultimately it feels a little jumbled. Had they chosen a more typical cat and mouse sort of detective mystery (something like Insomnia or Zodiac), they could have had a very solid movie here. As it is, it’s nothing too memorable, but it does benefit greatly from a strong cast.
6/10
Chain Reaction (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – Directed by Andrew Davis, who also directed The Fugitive, again tries to tap into the case of mistaken identity action thriller. This is nowhere near as polished or developed as it, though. There’s virtually no character development in Chain Reaction, it’s just essentially one long chase scene. The narrative is very hard to follow, and makes very little sense. Keanu could possibly have the most uneven body of work; he’s done some good stuff, but for each one of those, there’s something super mediocre like this. It’s not a terrible movie, but it wastes all of the considerable talent involved.
4.5/10
Point Break (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – I guess Hurt Locker is really what put Kathryn Bigelow on the map, but she was making good movies before then. This isn’t one of the top tier action movies from the 90’s, but it’s still a fun piece of the decade. Keanu turns in a respectable performance for him, and Busey is his usual crazy self. It has some solid action scenes, and the interactions between Keanu and Busey are good, too.
6.5/10
The Purge (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – When I originally watched the trailers, I thought this had the potential to be a very cool, original movie. In practice, the concept works better than the execution. I thought it was a little too brief (~80 minutes), and was very formulaic once the intruders made it into the home. I think they also had the potential to do a lot more with the conclusion, but it felt sort of lazy too. As it stands, I didn’t dislike it, but it could have been so much more.
6/10
Pandorum (Blu-ray, 2nd viewing) – The horror/sci-fi films when done properly are one of my favorite sub-genres in horror. This is one of the better ones, and I actually enjoy it more than some of the more popular *cough Alien cough * films. I don’t if it’s by his choosing or if Hollywood feels differently, but Foster needs to be cast in lead roles; he’s good here, as he always is. Pandorum feels a lot like The Descent in space, both of which are very claustrophobic and dark – a great combo in my eyes for horror. Critics didn’t show this a lot of love, but everyone I’ve talked to in my personal life enjoyed it.
7/10
The Stepfather (Blu-ray, 2nd viewing) – If you’re not a fan of slashers, this is a complete pass. Truth be told, I’m not sure why I enjoy this movie, but I do. There’s not any ground here that hasn’t been tread many times before. In spite of its obvious flaws, it works for me. I credit Dylan Walsh’s performance more than anything. Again, if you think the slasher genre is tired and bloated, this certainly won’t change your mind. In my opinion, this is one of the better remakes/reimagining of horror slashers to come out.

T.V.
They’re obviously not movies, but I did just finish Season 1 of Arrested Development and Season 9 of The Office. I have a massive backlog of T.V. shows to watch, so I’m not sure when I’ll get around to watching Season 2 of AD, though I did enjoy Season 1.
I absolutely love The Office, and rank it up right up there with Seinfeld as my favorite show of all time. However, Season 9 was a massive letdown. They took some of the characters in bizarre directions, and the drama between Jim and Pam was stale after about 2 episodes. Things did take an obvious decline once Carrell left, but I thought the last season (8) was decent without him. Robert California was a good character and I actually thought Gabe was missed in Season 9.
Better than 2 but no where close to the original!

Personally I would rate it a 3/5 but I do agree with your eloquent, concise review.
I can finally check "watched Halle Berry make guacamole with her breast" off my bucket list.

Possibly a random question, but do you think that was actually Halle's breast? It looked fake.
