Oblivion (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – I thought it was a good, but not great science fiction film. It does borrow heavily from many other better films, and you’ll see the conclusion coming. In spite of this, it’s probably one of the more visually stunning movies to come out in the last year, and the cast is very good, too. It doesn’t reinvent the genre or anything, but it’ll keep you entertained for the full 2 hours very well. It’s probably worth a rent for most anyone.

Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – Well, it’s been just under 8 hours since I watched this, and I have no idea what to think. On one hand, it gives Cage the chance to go full crazy (something he does very well), but on the other, I have no idea what to take away from it. I’m not a great film critic, but movies like this make me feel like I’m missing something. If you like Cage and his usual over the top performances, you’ll enjoy this somewhat. Critics are really big on it, but for me it was just mostly an average dirty cop drama with a strong performance from Cage, nothing more, nothing less.
5.5/10
Silent Hill: Revelations (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – much like the original that was released quite a few years ago, this didn’t really do too much for me. There are some decently scary visuals mixed in, but no real scares. I was never into the games, so I can’t comment on how well it follows the series. You can do much worse for 90 minutes of entertainment, but you’ll forget about this pretty quickly.

Welcome to the Punch (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – Overall not a bad little action thriller, and it’s nice to see Mark Strong receive a more central role. I’ve always liked his work, and he gets the opportunity to flesh out a character a little more here. The story isn’t much to write home about, but the interactions between James McAvoy’s character and Strong’s are solid, and worth a watch for fans of these particular actors. I think I should note that as an American, it was a little difficult to understand their heavy British accents at times, but it was never bad enough to detract from the film as a whole.

Solomon Kane (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – I had read a lot of positive reviews about this movie, and the concept seemed pretty cool, so when it reached a $9.99 price point on Amazon, I bit. I thought it was good, and I really wish they’d continue the series as planned. The effects are very good for a smaller budget, and Purefoy is great as the title character. I think it’s generally a better movie than most of the films it emulates. My only major complaint is the predictable nature the film takes towards the end. Definitely not disappointed with this blind buy, though.

My Bloody Valentine (Blu-ray, 2nd viewing) – It’s not my favorite of the slasher remakes, but I think it’s decent. It’s doesn’t really try anything new, but it sticks to some good kills, and the killer is well hidden if you haven’t seen the original. I know I’m a little more forgiving when it comes to slashers, but I think most people could have fun with this one.
