Starship Troopers: Invasion (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – plagued by the same thing most all animated features are to me: visually impressive, lacking on much story or character development. Fans of the universe will probably enjoy it, but not worth it for most.
5/10
Murder in the First (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – features a strong performance from Kevin Bacon, but everything else is mostly average. Worth a watch for fans of Bacon and courtroom dramas, though.
6/10
The Thomas Crown Affair (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – enjoyed this much more than I thought I would. Russo and Brosnan are excellent opposite one another, and I’m normally not into the romantic genre, but this one was quite good. It also has some excellent heist scenes. May not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I liked it.
7.5/10
Space Cowboys (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – another one I didn’t expect to enjoy as much as I did. The story is pretty formulaic, and has an extremely predictable ending, but the acting really saves it. Much like Armageddon, the plot is kind of ludicrous, but it manages to stay entertaining enough to keep you from asking too many questions.
7/10
High Crimes (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – didn’t know much about this, but it was one of the team-ups between Judd and Freeman from the 90s. In this, Cavaziel plays a Marine accused of gunning down civilians, where Judd is a defense attorney, who ends up defending Cavaziel. Freeman comes along about 1/3 of the way through the movie, playing a motor-cycle riding, drunk, who also happens to be an excellent defense attorney. The movie stretches into fantasy at times, but was entertaining throughout.
7/10
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – much like all of Tim Burton’s films, this had a distinctive visual style, and that oppressing darkness he likes so much. As far as remakes go, I thought this was good. I don’t consider it either Depp or Burton’s best work, but pads their impressive resumes well enough. Worth a watch for fans.
6/10
Minority Report (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – I did enjoy this, but didn’t see it as the amazing sci-fi film it’s often billed as. Has some really good scenes, and looks surprisingly good for a movie that’s 12 years old now. I knock him fairly often in conversation, but Cruise can lead a movie quite well.
7/10
Tomorrow Never Dies (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – had a hard time watching Goldeneye, and experienced the same thing with this. I really like Brosnan, and when I think of Bond, he’s actually who I think of. In comparison to Craig’s bond movies, Brosnan’s just feel a little too corny and gadget heavy. Skyfall and Casino Royale crap all over this and Goldeneye. I haven’t watched Die Another Day and The World Is Not Enough yet, but I expect my experience to be similar with them.
