Make sure you're cutting in to turns/corners with the correct trigger, and if you have to swing wide don't be afraid to use the outside hand/trigger. Also, it's counterintuitive, but short swings will speed you up quicker than long swings.
The best advice I can give you is actually to return that crappy game and buy Spiderman Web of Shadows instead.

When you can't skip the credits at the end of the game. Seems like the credits on Watch Dogs is taking longer to get through than it took me to beat the game.
