You can never fully prepare for the traffic your servers will get once your game launches. You can only do so much to make sure it goes smoothly, it happens to almost every major game.
That is not a valid excuse. For $60.00 you should have access to the full game in working order upon release. In the case of Batman I could not even play the game connected to Xbox live until the day AFTER it came out. GTA online was not available for a month and when it did get released it was a absolute train wreck and half I people I know got their characters deleted. I'm not sure why gamers are so lenient as to think this is business as usual instead of a outrage.

Companies dont buy or invest in enough servers for launch, instead they buy the amount they think they need for longtivity of the game.
thats why most mmos, diablo 3, most online shooters, etc never work properly fieat few weeks. Sucks but that's how it is. Not everyone is call of duty.

The "Harsh" truth of the gaming world grinds my gears. No other product comes with such a "Might work in a few weeks, good luck" type of stigma. Before constant patching games actually had to be completely finished before they were unleashed unto a unsuspecting public.
Edit: Is it really that difficult to keep a server up? Even games with extensive beta testing seem completely overwhelmed and scrambling for several days. I can understand some things but as a consumer I find it difficult to "Expect and accept" a defective product each time I drop $60.

What grinds my gears - studying for a polisci exam and the doorbell rings. Wife answers it and calls from the other side of the house that it's for me. I go to the door, not sure what to expect, and get served a notice of legal separation from my wife that just answered the door. WTF?
