I really loved it. Beta opens again Saturday so I’ll be able to play more, but so far, it feels like fallout. I just leveled up to 5 right before the beta closed, so I didn’t get a ton of experience dealing with other people (level 5 is when you can group up or whatever) so most of my time was spent joining an npc group, and exploring. Lots of junk and way less ammo and money, which makes sense considering the whole online thing.
The MMO aspect so far doesn’t bother me. Like, if you get a hit on something and then it runs off and you don’t follow, you get exp if someone else kills it, so that’s cool. I didn’t run into any npcs besides robots, and I guess that’s odd, but you’re playing 20 years post bomb, so really everyone’s dead. At level 5, your options open up and you can team up with people or become enemies. If you don’t shoot at someone who shoots at you, they aren’t considered an enemy and the game shields you from damage a bit. From what I’ve seen there’s not a huge penalty for dying- your corpse just sits there and people can grab your junk- so it’s basically a Saturday night with Meta.
