not sure why Joss Whedon was in that conference call... or what this has to do with Marvel. In more Marvel related news, I was just reading up on the not one, not six, but four Marvel Cinematic Universe Netflix mini-series that are in production. This isn't just some fanboy speculation its an official deal that was struck a month ago about. I've been hearing about it for a while now but I take it its now official. Four character will get 13 episode treatments; Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones, and starting it all off is Daredevil in 2015. Its set to all take place in the same neighborhood of New York, Hells Kitchen, with an end goal of finishing up with a Marvel's The Defenders mini-series.
I think it all sounds totally awesome, Netflix series tend to be really great and given Marvel's cinematic universe success I can't see this being a bad thing in the slightest
Joss Whedon wrote a Wonder Woman treatment / heavily involved with a Wonder Woman movie that never got off the ground, & adores the character, along with (a personal Jersey BFF man-crush of mine, Kevin Smith). They all want to see the character have justice. She's the most recognizable female superhero ever. And she has roots in the bigotry & sexism of the early 1900's, in how her character was displayed in erotic bondage from her villains (look at her early comic book covers).
There's many more (frankly) interesting female superheroes created, since then- but brand recognition is tantamount. Wonder Woman is something people the world over, knows. So it's disappointing, to use that word-- that the 1st real representation of her, on a bigger budget movie- is a slim trophy girl made famous from a street racing franchise. As terrible as Megan Fox would've been, even she has more "gravitas" than this girl. Like I said, she's probably very nice, and has genuine acting talent. But every person cannot play every role. That's why I got out of acting, and went into Directing. This is a closed-door political decision, and it shows. Whereas Marvel does things like bite the bullet, and re-negotiate Robert Downey Jr's contract- AT A LOSS TO THEM FINANCIALLY- because they know he's Iron Man. Plain and simple.
