The Rockstar Support twitter explains, "For optimal performance, we recommend not installing that disc. We will have more info on our Support Site at launch."
Grand Theft Auto V comes on two 8GB discs on Xbox 360; the first is a mandatory "install" disc, while the second is the "play" disc. While you'll have to install the former (as you might have guessed), the studio has warned against trying to do the same for the latter as it'll negatively impact how the game runs.

Update to the install issue,
You can install the "Play Disk" on to a separate device like a USB drive and have the optimal "diskless" experience so long as you have a decent USB drive (15MBytes/s Read Speed). This is not official but it's a workaround discovered by numerous people who don't want their disk drives running whilst keeping optimal performance.

Who are these "Fantastic" characters in GTA IV you speak of? Did Brucie and Roman really tickle your fancy? Bully's cast had twice the depth and it was a spoof. I am finding Trevor (GTAV) fairly interesting so far so maybe their is hope...the absence of notable villains is a downer though.
Brucie was an hilarious character, but you hate almost everything you play or complain that 1 little thing isnt perfect and it ruins the game for you. Especially since brucie was a satire on yuppies and jersey shore type people before that shoe was around makes himceven more hilarious for when that game came out

I merely am arguong that you saying gta iv is objectively incorrect. You may not have enjoyed but its still a great game. And you would still be citing a minority opinion anyway, a good portion of people enjoyed gta 4 more than people disliked it. In fact I havent brought up scores once, that was only you that brought them up saying they were bought. So they must buy EVERY site and magazine since they get all these high 9s and 10s right??? A empty shell filled to the brim with Jersey Shore stereotypes does not appeal to me. I don't hate every game I play, I just have different standards then you. If you think sad racial stereotypical characters that never get fleshed out are awesome more power to you. GTAIV has plenty of them to go around. I'm not the only person to ever reference the poor narrative or clunky gun play either. I'm not getting into a "Fanboy" argument as to not further railroad the thread. Let's just enjoy the improvements that GTA V has over it's predecessors.

I never said I didn't like them. I just implied your standards are warped. GTA takes itself way to seriously to get away with rehashing the same three movies over and over. They actually have to be GOOD characters with subsistence to make the cut. A character can be moderately funny without being "Great".
As for that last sentence I call BS. I rarely ever "Hate" anything. The fan boy in you just jumps to that conclusion if anyone is remotely critical to your favorites. Just like you implied a 8/10 rating is hating the game.

I didn't mind 4, I liked it when I first played it then got sidetracked and didn't play it for a LONG time and when I came back to it it was clunky as fuck but still enjoyable for the most part, I still need to do the DLC sometime...
This game is fantastic compared to 4's mechanics though, especially the gun handling and cars for the most part. Thumbs up.
The social club on their site and the new app isn't working very well right now though
