The way they are showing the Thenn, especially Styr, bugs me. The free folk are harsh and tough, but in the books I felt a kind of affection for them. In the show they're so cartoonish, it's crazy. The Thenn are probably the worst off, unless I'm remembering the books incorrectly.

I don't think you're wrong. They're definitely taking some liberties this season. Some of the changes I think are working so far, like Bran getting captured by the traitors and them showing us what the Others do with the babies. The only change I really take issue with is them turning Cersei and Jaime banging in the Sept last week into a rape scene. In the book, Cersei wanted it just as much, if not more, than Jaime. I think them changing it around runs totally counter to the way Jaime's character has developed over last season and in the books.

It's weird how Cersei was totally normal towards him this week though. Like she made a comment about him acting formally, but then she was really only mad when she found out he believes Tyrion. It works with the book sex scene but not the way it played out last week. She should have said something. She's Cersei. She says stuff.

Yeah I'm not sure why they did that. It's not like the books aren't dark enough already without the show negating any positive character development.
