I would say use a lot of traps, Kat. From what I have seen so far just playing on Hard, traps do a crap load of damage and seem to confound the enemy AI for a little while, buying you time for shield regen.

Will playing this game before the first two ruin anything for me? Such as spoilers, intertwined stories, or gameplay (if I decide to go back and play the first two)?

Theres always the "Hidden audio file" theory to consider. Play Bioshock 1, skip 2.

No, they aren't connected in any spoilerish way. Some stuff (references) might go over your head though.

Gameplay of 1 might seem archaic if you do Infinity first.
I heavily recommend you play through 1 at some point.

I recently heard there was a list if books that ken Levine said where the influence for him writing bioshock infinite, and I've been searching quite a long time on the Internet to find it, that I went through his whole AMA in reddit (ask me anything) and came across some interesting information about the original design of the game, and just a few of the books.
here's one of them:
Spoiler: Click here to toggle spoilerthe devil in the white city by Erik Larson takes place in 1893 in Chicago and is a non fiction book, gonna definitely pick it up!

Finally beat it, Hard felt just right even though the Handymen raped me numerous times.
So this 1999 mode... is it true that if you die with no money it's game over?

I think it just kicks you to the main menu and then you can restart from your last actual checkpoint so it doesn't sound TOO bad, but I'm not gonna waste my time with it, I don't need any new headaches

I have 15 hours invested and can't get past the 2nd Siren. Circus is correct each death costs 100 silver eagles once you can no longer afford the regen you are kicked to the main menu and must reload at the last checkpoint.

These Siren fights I keep hearing about...
Spoiler: Click here to toggle spoilerthats the ghost fights with Lizs mom?
if so yeah those are rough, I died as much on the first 2 as everything else in the game combined. They are the primary reason I'm procrastinating on 1999.

Meta,
Yes that is exactly who it is. The problem is the 2nd one is in the bank vault and there are not any good weapons close by and you can't buy anything from the dollar bill machines. Very frustrating.

Shit dude, mad respect for getting that far. I got stumped right at the beginning with those damn turrets. Didn't even make the first fireman before I gave up. It was like I brought a cap gun and they had armor piercing bullets.

Kat,
Thanks yeah all the heavy hitters were very difficult! The Handyman in Finkton took over an hour by himself. I haven't totally given up just taking a break and playing some gears. Figure I will play Riptide next and then give it another go.
