I enjoyed this a lot. They did a great job considering it probably had a miniscule budget. It is sort of like Your Highness except about modern-day LARPers that accidentally summon a demon and have to deal with it. Peter Dinklage (aka Tyrion Lannister) is great as expected, and I love Summer Glau. This is free for Gold members via Xbox Video but I don't know for how long.
Amazing Spider-man 2 - 3.75/5
I enjoyed this more than the old trilogy and the first Amazing. This new guy is a more entertaining Peter Parker and the director does a better job of combining action, comedy and some drama. Emma Stone is also good as Gwen Stacey and I like her a hell of a lot better than Kirsten Dunst's MJ from the old trilogy. Now I am just hoping they get in to the symbiote/Venom stuff for the inevitable third movie.
Jay and Silent Bob's Super Groovy Cartoon Movie - 4.5/5 NNR
If you are a fan of J&SB, and/or Clerks and its short-lived animated series, you will love this movie. If you think Kevin Smith's writing is too self-gratifying and immature, this certainly won't change your mind. Anyway, It's great that the characters are still doing what they do and this movie delivers their trademark humor in spades, even if the animation feels (and probably is) low-budget.

We may have to pistol-duel over this Meta. Kirsten Dunst was the first woman to ever lay on my bed (in California)... To be fair, she was rummaging through my closet, trying to make me over, like Brian Grazer. The look didn't suit me, but she's a far better MJ, than Emma Stone's Gwen. Andrew Garfield desires a lot of credit, but in a perfect world, Emma died, & he moved on to Kirsten, who challenged him- just like she did to me (a D-list Parker IRL).
Honestly, they'll never hire Kirsten as MJ (again), but based off the mainstream reviews, that would be a quite interesting choice, to have her reprise the role, to tie the movies together. I'll speak from experience, that the look she gives a lesser Man, moves him. As it did, me, seven years ago.

Well to be fair, I will admit that I don't know much about either character as far as the comics/canon go, and I am actually a fan of Kirsten Dunst, I liked her a lot in Eternal Sunshine and Marie Antoinette, and I am unfairly partial to Emma Stone because I love her smokey voice and wit.
"Challenging him" is a good way of putting it, sounds more positive, but to me her character or performance or whatever came off as petulant and too close to a realistic, high-maintenance girlfriend which, as an awkward man-child with less social skills than a piece of dryer lint, I find threatening and unappealing.

The Great Debaters (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – This was one of the last remaining Denzel movies I had yet to see. I thought it was really good and another strong directorial outing for him, too. It’s not as emotional as some of the other African American films of the last decade, but still manages to paint that backdrop well enough to evoke some response. Denzel is great as always, as is the rest of the cast. Not sure what sort of rewatch potential it has, but I enjoyed it.
7/10
Now You See Me (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – Has some good twists and turns along the way and a competent cast, but just misses being good. The characters are a little thin, and the majority of the movie focuses on their magic, which is all fine and good, but some more development would have been nice. It seems there will be a sequel, and though it’s unlikely I’ll run out to see it in theater, I will check it out.
6.5/10
Replicant (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – A passable action flick that doesn’t do anything to really distinguish itself from the multitude of Van Damme flicks. I’ve always considered him a weak facsimile for Arnold and Stallone, and this isn’t one of his better movies to me. For the most part, just predictable action movie fluff here.
4/10
Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – It relies heavily on what made the original so funny, and at times that works well enough, but other times it’s just painful. I’m a fan of Carrell, but Brick has a little too much screen time, and just isn’t that funny to me. Ferrell still has the ability to make me laugh, but the last ½ of this was almost entirely void of any laughs. There are some scenes early on, however the comedy is a little uneven throughout.
5/10
The Legend of Hercules (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – Is definitely as bad as critics made it out to be. It seems to be one of those movies that has a desire to follow the likes of 300 and Immortal, but it has a PG-13 rating. I’m all for style over substance sometimes, but if you’re going to do that, you need to sell out and have some gratuitous violence and nudity. The plot is rushed and not explained very well, the acting is almost uniformly bad, the dialogue is cheesy; there’s not really anything here to recommend in the least. From a technical perspective, the Blu-ray does look good, though!
2/10
Not one of Martin Scorsese's best movies. It was also entirely too long (3 hrs) for a movie that simply goes in circles.
8/10
Arlington Road (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – Is overall a pretty intelligent, well done thriller. Jeff Bridges and Tim Robbins make for a strong pair of leads. I had the ending pegged a little too soon due to something that was alluded to earlier in the story, but everything does tie together quite nicely. The movie seems even more appropriate given the things that have occurred inside our own country since this film’s release in 1996. Not a mind blowing movie, but stays entertaining throughout and passes its 110 minute runtime fairly swiftly.
6.5/10
Safe (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – It’s not an altogether bad Statham flick, but one that follows a pretty typical pattern for him. It does have some good action scenes, and the manner in which they’re shot is original. The plot is a little needlessly confusing; however, the focus isn’t placed on developing much there anyway. Worth a watch for fans of Statham for sure, as it’s mostly just him doing his thing, though it does evoke slightly more compassion for him (his character) than some of his other stuff.
6/10
Wild Things (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – First, I would throw Neve Campbell to the sharks to get with Denise Richards from this era. Wow, she is jamming in this movie. Much like Basic Instinct, this is an erotic thriller, and may just be because I’m a horn dog, but I thought it was pretty good. There are a few too many twists and turns in my opinion, however, but it does keep you guessing. The ending comes together quite nicely and let’s face it, Bill Murray steals every little bit of screen time he gets here. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I liked it.
7/10
The Hunt for Red October (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – I was saving this for when I read the book, which I did a few weeks ago. I found the book to be disappointing, as it’s told in a very slow fashion, with a lot of elaboration on what (to me) were unnecessary details. Unfortunately, I found the movie to be very similar – kind of slow and dull. Baldwin and Connery make for a good pair of leads and there’s a lot of talent in the supporting cast, but it just wasn’t that entertaining to me.
6/10
Dredd (Blu-ray, 2nd viewing) – I wasn’t quite as wowed by this as many other people, but it is a surprisingly well done action movie on a limited budget. I’ve been eagerly waiting the time when Karl Urban becomes a mainstream actor, and this had the potential to spark him into that, but unfortunately the movie didn’t catch on with most. It’s ambitious and fairly unique, with some really good action and violence, and well worth checking out. Again, it’s never been a dark horse of mine like it is for some people, but is a better than average action movie that deserves a sequel.
6.5/10
Men of Honor (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – It follows the mold of countless other inspirational type movies, but is anchored by Cuba Gooding Jr. and Robert De Niro. Were it not for the lead actors, it wouldn’t be worth your time, but as it is, it’s worth checking out for fans of De Niro, especially.
5.5/10
Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (Blu-ray, 2nd viewing) – It’s not quite the summer blockbuster T2 was, but continues the series pretty well nonetheless. The only major complaint I have with it is the lack of balance it sometimes has. Arnold has some comical moments mixed into what (should be) a pretty serious affair. It hasn’t aged that bad for a movie released a little over 10 years now. I’m interested to see where they take the series in the future.
6.5/10
Redemption (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – Statham plays as an ex-SF soldier who’s fled the military after brutally murdering some civilians in Afghanistan. It tries to be a little more than his typical affair, as he’s dealing with some PTSD issues, so there’s a bit more emotion to it than Transporter, Crank, etc. It had more potential than it shows, as it’s just never able to stay focused on any one thing in the story. Part of it is about his own struggles, another focuses on his relationship with a nun, who’s losing her faith in god, and lastly, Statham’s search for justice for a friend of his who’s kidnapped into prostitution early on. You have to admire it for trying to be something more, but it fails to accomplish all it could have under more tight direction.

Godzilla - Was awesome!!!! Godzilla looks sick and the acting was great! 8.5/10.
