Primal Fear (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – had never really had much about this, but when it popped up for $5 on Amazon, I decided to pick it up. I read that Edward Norton got his start here, and it’s easy to see why. Most of the courtroom dealings and the story are pretty average, but his performance elevates it to a level that I can recommend. He’s as good here as he is in Fight Club and American History X.
7/10
Raging Bull (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – didn’t really have the impact on me that it does have for a lot of people. I thought De Niro was great in it, but as a film it didn’t really do a lot for me. De Niro does a fantastic job of playing a really shitty guy, but other than that, nothing special.
6.5/10
Chinatown (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – another night, another classic film watched. I thought this one lived up the hype better than Raging Bull. This movie has definitely inspired me to take a few steps back and check out some of Hitchcock’s work, as everything I’ve read seems to consider this a spiritual successor of sorts. Overall, great story, good pacing, and an outstanding performance from Jack Nicholson ensure that this will stand the test of time. For a movie that’s coming up on 40 years, it’s aged well. If you want to see movies that have spawned a lot of what you watch today, this would be a decent place to start.
7.5/10
Courage Under Fire (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – not a bad thriller/drama, but just average in most respects. Denzel is good as always, but it all feels a little too familiar to be that compelling. Not very much at all I can say about it. It's not a bad film, but I wouldn't go out of my way to see it again.
6/10
The Mask (Blu-ray, 3rd viewing) – this was one of my favorite films growing up as a child, but it didn’t do nearly as much for me this time around. Jim Carrey’s great, but sometimes it devolves into just plain weirdness, almost a little too over the top for me.
Still, despite the craziness, it has its moments, and I can appreciate what it’s a throwback to.
6.5/10
I Know What You Did Last Summer (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – as far as teen slashers go, I’d say this is pretty average. Alongside Scream it doesn’t stack up very well, but you can do a lot worse as far as these go.
5/10
Crimson Tide (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – I was sad to see Tony Scott go, not just because of his untimely demise, but the dude could make a pretty solid action thriller. I consider this one of his better films. Overall casting is solid, with Washington being the standout as always. Moves at a brisk pace, never feeling bloated or boring. Has enough action to keep you engaged, but also some character development in there, too. You can do better as far as action thrillers go, but this is definitely a solid film in a good resume of work from Tony Scott.
7/10
Trick ‘r Treat (Blu-ray, 2nd viewing) – definitely a very original film, you’d be very pressed to find anything else quite like it. It’s essentially 4 different stories, but they tie into one another pretty well. Does a good job of mixing in some humor with the terror; it definitely doesn’t feel like a film that was released in the 2000s. This would be a really good one to watch around Halloween, it really sets the mood for the holiday.
6.5/10
Killer Joe (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – features a solid cast, and the first 30-45 minutes are really good. I mention that first bit because after that it falls apart. The cast is overall pretty good, but they just can’t hold up the absurdity that follows. If you want to see McConaughey play a very sadistic hitman, give this a shot. I can see this being one of the movies that you either love or hate, with me falling somewhere in the middle.

What else would you want from a movie????
Especially Die Hard. I still need to see this one.
It's remarkably goreless for how violent it is, lol.
I thought this was gonna be super cheesy and not funny. Ended of being pretty fucking hilarious and original. Couple of rednecks get mistaken for psycho killers by college kids and a whole bunch of funny mistakes ensue.
Its on netflix instant if anyone cares to watch it

This
I'd give it a 7.5/10 due to some inaccuracies and long stretches of filler. Kevin Costner gave his best performance in a decade though.
Pacific Rim 8/10 - Epic mech action. Not much in the way of depth but it's hard to knock giant robots fighting aliens with zero Shia Lebeouf.
