Quote by The Snapple Cap:
I think 11/10 on this one.
A step in the right direction.
6/10
The Wolverine (Theater, 1st viewing) – probably falls somewhere in the middle of the X-Men films for me. I didn’t hate Origins or Last Stand, but this is a superior film when compared to them. Overall, most everything about it is only slightly above average, but Hugh Jackman is arguably the most perfect cast superhero in any comic book film; he really nails the character again. Some aspects of the story are contrived and seem a little forced, but Wolverine being Wolverine is always a welcome site to me. I really have high hopes about Days of Future Past; I definitely think it has the potential to be right up there with X2 and First Class for me. I think The Wolverine is a worthy addition to the CBM genre, but it’s not in the upper echelon.
7.5/10
Midnight Movie (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – I guess this is a sort of indie horror flick, but it’s received something of a cult status here recently. I found it for pretty cheap and decided to give it a go. It’s pretty run of the mill low-budget slasher stuff: excessive gore, bad acting, non-existent plot, and of course it takes itself very seriously. I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone unless they’re a huge genre fan or just really love gore.
3/10
Batman: Mystery of the Batwoman (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – as far as the animated DC flicks go, this isn’t anything to write home about. The mystery remains hidden pretty well throughout the film, and you do get to see several of the more famous Batman villains. It’s a story that could have easily been told in one of the 20-25 minute episodes in the superior Batman T.V. show from the same period.
5/10
Toy Story (Blu-ray, 4th viewing) – I think I can comfortably say that this probably my favorite animated film. I’d have to give the Lion King a rewatch, but this is nostalgia at its finest. As with most everything Pixar, there are moments where you could squeal with childhood delight, but also moments that are horribly sad. Tim Allen and Tom Hanks are the standouts in a very talented crowd of voice actors. I haven’t seen TS3, so I’m working back through these earlier ones to get to it. Don’t be alarmed at my lower rating when combined with my praise; this is about as much as I can enjoy the animated stuff.
8/10
G.I. Joe: Retaliation (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – I enjoyed the original as a sort of popcorn flick, and this is more of the same, but it does have a slightly more serious tone, though. It also benefits greatly by the appearance of The Rock. I don’t think they made a good decision in having split stories at about the half-way point, as the Snack Eyes side just wasn’t compelling or interesting. I kept waiting for the reveal of Bruce Willis’s character, Joe, but ultimately that was a bit of a letdown. He’s been in so many films lately, it just doesn’t have the same “cool” effect that you’d expect. It’s good ol dumb fun, but check the brain at the door first.
6.5/10
Equilibrium (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – I thought it had some moments and solid ideas, but it’s mostly just average sci-fi action to me. Bale fits the role very well, and is solid as always. The action was a little too cheesy and over the top sometimes, but it probably doesn’t bother some like it does me. It’s definitely not bad, but not something I’m likely to watch again anytime soon.
6/10
Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – David Fincher is a top 5 director for me, and this along with Panic Room were the only films of his I had yet to see. This isn’t on par with my favorites of his (Fight Club, Seven and GwtDT), but it’s still a solid film. It has some brief flashes of greatness, but ultimately I just found it to be good, not great. It’s also a bit long, which really hurts its likelihood of receiving many rewatches. I’ve always been a little put off by the concept, but it’s handled in a way that doesn’t seem corny. Pitt and Blanchett are both very strong in the lead roles.
7.5/10
Prometheus (Blu-ray, 2nd viewing) holds up reasonably well with a second viewing, especially considering I’ve seen it twice inside a year. I know a lot of people were disappointed with it, mostly due to the weak conclusion, which is odd because this is the first in a planned series. I think it raises some interesting questions, and I’m definitely curious to see what direction they take the story in the upcoming releases, whenever that may be. Overall a great cast and some outstanding visuals round out this solid sci-fi release.
7/10
I didn't know Prometheus was already planned as a series so now I am excited to see the next whatever it is. Noomi Rapace was really great as the Ridley-esque character of the movie.
I am surprised you did not enjoy Equilibrium more but you make valid points about its over-the-top nature.

Thanks for the kind comments, Meta.
Yeah, I know there will be at least one more, and I'm fairly certain it's the first in a planned trilogy.
I randomly redbox'd this expecting a cheesy 300-clone with vikings substituted for Spartans, but in actuality it is an engrossing & dramatic journey, like a more serious/somber Season of the Witch. The way they portray the Dark Ages' mentality towards Norse religion, freshly-scribed copies of the New Testament Gospels, and tribal cultures of the Picts and Anglo-Saxons is surprisingly respectful. Additionally, the violence and nudity are graphic but not gratuitous which is a thin line to walk. Sadly the low budget shows in the small scope of many scenes but overall a very enjoyable movie. Recommended to fans of Season of the Witch, Valhalla Rising, Pathfinder, and maybe 300 & new Conan fans.
Honestly, this is probably the worst AND the most annoying movie I have ever seen. A hour and a half of two teens arguing and bitching at each other, all while making the most illogical and irrational decisions possible. Spock would be PISSED.
Hilarious, absolutely would recommend.
I'll admit I rented this just to see some Hollywood-style breast meat, but it actually ended up being a decent film with an interesting story and characters. It's like a less fantastical Sucker Punch or a less dramatic Havoc with more action. I actually forgot that the main guy was James Franco for awhile so colour me surprised that he is a decent actor. Selena Gomez was in this movie and she was annoying and I don't like her much anyway, she is like the least hot thing to come out of the Disney jailbait machine. Unfortunately this movie tries too hard to be somber & deep to be a good party flick, but it's not serious enough to be a dramatic film either.
