Now THIS is why movies are interesting. This film has elements from other movies like Logan's Run, Soylent Green, Blade Runner, The Fountain, Apocalypto and even Brazil, but it is at the same time completely unique. It has several big-name actors like Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Susan Sarandon and more, and it covers genres as different as sci-fi, fantasy, serious Victorian period pieces, and philosophical dramas. It helps a lot that the budget was apparently huge and everything from costumes to special effects are immaculate and convincing--this isn't just another pretend epic filmed in front of green screens exclusively.
Even though I call this a 5/5, I wouldn't recommend it to everyone. It is very long and incredibly convoluted, and practically demands multiple viewings and on good audio & video equipment. Fans of weird but thoughtful movies like those above ought to give it a watch. I was absolutely blown away by how great it is, and considering it requires thought to understand I can see why it didn't do better in theaters.
I thought the three leads were kinda weak but the girl mostly. The supporting
cast was great though. Especially Benecio Del Toro and Salma Hayek.
I really wish someone had given a bunch of money to the people that did the awesome live-action short back when Halo 3 first came out. Instead, whoever did this movie got the funding so now we have this overly-long, overly-dramatic live action flick that tries really hard to be dramatic but comes out like 'bring your teen to work day' at the local army barracks. You could be forgiven for not even realizing it was set in the Halo universe until a sort of "plot twist" clumsily hits you in the face.
If I were to watch this again, I would fast forward to the last 1/3 of the film when it actually gets awesome for few minutes. You'll know when you see the coloured explosions. I would only recommend this movie to the type of hardcore Halo fans that have read all the books.

Funny, but less funny every time you see it. And I don't like how the story changes about 75% of the way through the movie. I know they do that with Family Guy a lot, but it seems to work for a half an hour TV show just not the full length movie.
Well half of that cast IS Family Guy's cast and that's the way Seth MacFarlane wanted it. I watched this tonight and I'd probably give it a 4/5. I'm a huge fan of Family Guy and I like Mark Wahlberg as a comedic actor. It did slow down at the end a bit but it was still pretty funny.
watched some biographies too.
Dredd, 8/10, pretty awesome action movie and the gore was great too, better than the original.
