Then, the Saint's Row franchise took a decidedly Crackdowny turn.
It was popular because of the H3 beta. I don't think anyone is mistaking it for a great game, though. If I had to say why the people who enjoy it actually enjoy it, it's because it's easy to pick up and play, the co-op is drop in and drop out and is a lot of fun. It's a violent game that makes you a way overpowered bad-ass that can pretty much do whatever the hell he wants, whenever he wants to do it. People like cel-shaded graphics for some reason.
Gun play and driving take a back seat to kicking motherfuckers 50 feet into the air and running 65 MPH and leaping over buildings. If you are going to overthink a game and try to strategize, this is obviously not the game for you.
