They should've made it a digital only release / save on manufacturing costs, and charge $14.99, same like an arcade game on Xbox One / PS4

Yeah but you wouldn't know how going into it cold. Speed runs on Super Mario Bros were done in a couple minutes, that doesn't make it a bad game. Playing SMB the normal way without knowing about warp zones etc can take an hour or more.

Killing Caesar also doesn't end the game... it just really, really pisses off that faction, so you can't be friendly with the legion, ever. You still have to deal with how to deal with mr.house

I agree. Fallout NV was crazy open. Any path in any order, spend hundreds of hours or 5...

I'm not sure that the majority think 3 was better but that's because people I talk to are the PC fallout group, and they like nv better because it's truer to the series. So most of the people who have played the PC games first prefer nv to 3, but I don't know what percent of total players that is.

I for one was a fan of the PC games and Fallout 3 just took the series to a whole new level. NV is almost identical to 3 gameplay wise so the "Truer to the series" arguments are minimal at best. Your not even a vault dweller or associated with them in NV (Something 1-3) all had in common.

Fallout 1: Vault Dweller
Fallout 2: Decedent of the first games protagonist
Fallout 3: Vault Dweller
Fallout NV: Some guy

Also just a fun factoid: Fallout 3 sold more copies then all previous games in the franchise combined.

Vault dweller is the only thing that could possibly be meant by truer to the series? That's all you got from the series? "Well you're a vault dweller..."

Best selling does NOT mean best loved. It means most anticipated. Technically sales reflect more on the game that came before it- "ehh, I didn't like the last one so I'll pass..." so maybe the nv sales are a better representative of the quality of 3? Maybe that's just me that does that? 3 does have better reviews than nv, but nv has better reviews than 1&2, so I don't think it's the same audience.

I don't think 3 took the series anywhere besides mainstream.

I'm shocked at how little you care that NV has the least to do with any of Fallout's staple plotlines (Enclave, Vaults, Super Mutants) yet somehow Bioshock Infinite draws your ire because it's also a change of pace. In fact New Vegas itself is least affected by the "Fallout" of any place on earth due to Mr. House. So even the title Fallout loses some of it's meaning.

In any event it's silly to continue to go back and forth about this. I like all of the fallout games. 3 just happens to be one of my favorite games period. You say it took the series mainstream but in reality it resurrected it. Fallout 2 came out in 98 and Brotherhood of Steel was so bad it's entire storyline was retconned.

I'm not all that psyched about Boston being Fallout 4's setting (is what it appears to be). Would be interesting to see more exotic locations. The setting in NV is a lot of the reason why it has it's charm. I'm also not sure if the Chinese would still be "at war" with the Americans. If they placed it on Hawaii (let's say), that would be a sizeable island whereby the Chinese could have captured one side, the Americans another- prior to the blast- so you'd have factions, and still have to deal with the consequences of the war.

I remember in Fallout 3, nearby the vault... you find a dead Chinese soldier with a saber you can equip off his dead body. I always found it interesting that that soldier got so close to the US Capitol, and that kind of stuff wasn't referenced again (to my knowledge).

Anyone that's played Front Mission (Squaresoft), the 1st game's island, I'm kinda talking about that, as a fallout setting. Or something like Korea- but that's not sellable... Hawaii would.

Chris Roberts directed it... was a reason he couldn't get Mark Hamill, Malcolm McDowell, John Rhys-Davies, Tom Wilson etc to be in it? He shot them for Wing Commander 3 and 4... it's not like their contract was so wildly different. Film for film. The movie could have had a prologue catching the audience up, & conclude the story after Wing Commander 4, have it be a fitting full-cinematic ending to all those characters.

I even see on the wiki- that Chris Roberts got Tim Curry as a Kilrathi voice (in the games). Tim Curry in full Kilrathi makeup would have been great. And I mean the MAKEUP FROM THE GAMES-- which was 1000% better than the crap they used for the Kilrathi in the movie. How does your MOVIE have a shitter look than your game? I'm pretty sure this was before EA took over Origin, too.

"Old Mark Hamill doesn't = box office"

Tell that to JJ Abrams rewriting Star Wars VII so Luke is front and center. And Wing Commander was over a decade ago...

I'm sure it wasn't entirely his fault- but seriously- what were you thinking? The BEST thing about that movie, was casting Saffron Burrows as Angel. Yes. That was a really smart decision. Everything else... not so much.
