Microsoft is cracking down on Account sharing

A few of my friends on TrialsHD.net have gotten permanently banned for sharing accounts. The only thing they would do on the accounts were share arcade games. The email they got from Microsoft said that bypassing the license for any DLC, game or theme (pretty much anything purchased) will now get you a ban from XBL permanently. PERMANENTLY.

They will not reset your gamerscore, but you'll never be able to play online with the gamertag that gets banned. The email also stated that in the near future bypassing licenses from anything purchased on the marketplace will result in a console ban.

So, if anyone has done this, I suggest buying the games and or whatever is it you got, so it looks like you did everything legit. All it takes is one person to file a complaint and you're history.

Figured I would post this because I know a few people on the site that have done this. Just a heads up.

Well, in that case I have nothing to worry about, since I buy damn near every piece of DLC that comes out it seems :rolleyes:

So this would include doing the whole "download mappack on one console, switch to a new console and login to live" sort of thing?

Also, I am now forced to download DLC on my Canadian account on my console to play on my American account, which support TOLD me to do... if I get banned for that, there's gonna be issues.

Although it's hughly unlikely that a person would travel all over the world to play with "friends". How can Microsoft ban you for playing an arcade game or DLC with said friend (I don't mean this at you Cannibal) ? I have a few games I've played at my friends house, so does this somehow include me since I didn't purchase the games?

If this is as Melissa may say, I may be safe. If it's gonna be like AJ said, I will have to buy about 3 DLC's and a full copy of a Arcade I don't think is worth 800 points....

Like I said, my buddies got banned for passing their accounts around and sharing arcade titles. If you recover a gamertag and download the games, you could be banned. If you bring your profile somewhere, you won't be banned, since it's actually you going to a friend's house, you're not redownloading the game already paid for in order to use it on your console, you're playing on the console the game was purchased for. MS can tell where you login to live from and if you recover someone's tag from far away to play a game and then that person recovers their tag, don't you think that seems suspicious?

@Kait, there's nothing you could do if you get banned. This goes for everyone - if you get banned, even MS' website says there's no fighting it and there's absolutely nothing you can do, if you call and start acting irrate, they just hang up.

Damn!! I just finished Borderlands and I let my 13 year old son transfer all of my DLC to his 360. I bought all of the DLC and I transferred it to his 360 since I was done with it. I don't want him to get banned - especially console banned!!!! EF!!!! :growl:
