The open world is amazing. You're not even far enough to do anything yet are you? Once you can brand captains you can order them to start a wide array of missions with different outcomes.

The story is more for fans of the books. The creation of the rings and origins of Sauron are barely even spoken of in the movies. Again are you even halfway through it to comment on it? Gollum lives in and around Mordor for obvious reasons. Given his age and obsession with the ring his presence in the game is only natural. I mean he IS the official guide to Mordor in LOTR so one would think he has had some adventures there.

why are you always so condescending? I've read the books before and after the movies, that doesn't make it a good story. I beat the hammer and all the missions up to that point while also doing most of the side missions and challenges I could before I open up the new area.

and like aj said, I have had very little issue with dying, the game isn't very difficult and the fights with captains/bosses/war chiefs haven't been very memorable like you would hope. there's almost no 1 on 1 confrontations which seems dumb.

the game has flaws and I don't think it should have been rated so high, get off your high horse haze.

edit: that's the same excuse bungie used for destiny. I shouldn't have to be over halfway through the game for the gameplay to get more interesting or the story actually be good. it doesn't excuse the previous half just because a second half is better. not that I'm saying either game is bad, but you directly argued against this same thing is destiny but praise it here.

I fought a Captain who never beat me and i had my Caragor eat his face off. Literally. I killed him and he came back later during a bout with another Captain with a bag draped over his face and i saw part of his jaw sticking out. As i was slicing through grunts he jumped out of nowhere and locked swords with me then garbled at me how much it hurt to even eat now and that he's going to repay the favor. So, no, it goes beyond just dying to one.

I dont say i completely agree with the latter, but you're not exactly wrong. In essence they do just that but you're putting it very plainly. I've seen the same dialogue come up a couple of times (Mainly the one about shoving their sword up my arse. What is up with that?) but i've also seen very unique responses as well. Another thing is traits, just like what my Captain did that i mentioned above, some Uruks will appear at the absolute least convenient time. They will actively seek you out on the map.

So it goes a bit further down the rabbit hole, but again, you're not wrong. I still think this is a very fun game though and i'm pretty satisfied so far. The combat is fun, although not the most fluid at times, it's super br00tal. The story is a bit wonky but at heart LotR and im willing to forgive it even if they didnt get the actor who plays Jon Snow to be Talion, who looks like his long lost brother. :p

I'm a little over halfway finished, it's a solid 8/10 in my book.

Yeah I was led to believe that between Destiny and Mordor the entire games industry would be revolutionized and Jesus Christ would return.

Both are good games in their own way but victims of the overhype machine.

Still, from everything I am reading here and elsewhere, I am looking forward to playing this for myself.

The difference is Shadow of Mordor is actually a entire game with a beginning, middle and end. Not sure what was over hyped about the Nemesis system as it does exactly what it said it was going to do. I have around 8 captains/war chiefs enslaved and I can manipulate the entire system at will. Destiny...absolutely nothing that was promised actually panned out. I don't feel it's fair to compare the two. I'd like to here you're thoughts on it Meta. Maybe one of you're quickie reviews?

That dude just gave Drakengard a 8 or 9? (Destructoid is a joke now) I'm a huge fan of the series and that piece of crap probably killed the franchise. Makes me physically ill just thinking about it now. Snapple's comments were before he was even able to use the Nemesis system as it's opened for customization after the Hammer fight. I'm curious if he still thinks the same after building a army and doing all the side missions you can order them to start.

You dont need to die. They just need to fight you and live to grow as a character . You are dismissing the large amount of individual stats they can get as well. @ Snapple Ac games are easier then this and almost everyone on the site plays them. Difficulty is never a big issue in open world games. I cant think of a single hard one. Skyim for example is the easiest elder scrolls after Oblivion but nobody really mentions the dumbing down after Morrowind. Also Ryse is a big poop nugget and Destiny has no story period. So it never got good halfway through and it is only 4 boring hours to the midway point boss.

They just need to fight and live? I'm not going to lie, nothing has fought me and lived in this game... Once you know what counter/attack to do towards a captain/warchief you could fight 5+ at a time and not even get hit (which I've done). I've died more fighting those assbag sabre-tooth things I can't remember the name of.

Caragors, I've only played for a few hours and died one time, also with a caragor involved in attacking me while fighting others. I had one captain try to retreat but I just arrowed him in the knee and then kicked his ass before he could flee, game wasn't bad from what I tried out so far, you can tell where it borrowed it's gameplay from instantly though.
