It's worth pointing out that the Xbox 360 version of this game won't be exactly the same as the xb1 version. The core gameplay will be the same but most of the nemesis system and deeper mechanics will be stripped out.
Well, glad i'll be getting it on PS4 then. It seems a little odd though that a prior gen game would get less on disc features-wise than its next gen counterpart. I can understand graphics not being on par, but to change the games inner workings to remove this or that seems off.
It's not just the Nemesis system that makes this game hopeful for me. I've never been a huge LotR fan (Star Wars was more my forte) but considering how dark this game is is what draws me towards it. Sauron being the omnipresent overlord of Mordor with legions of orc death troopers you need to slay and/or bring to your side to fight a (probably) unwinnable war, and that badass wraith with you every step of the way. This is the LotR game i need.

why? the last gen version clearly can't handle some of the stuff going on which is why it's being changed.

No other games come to mind that have done that, it's always been almost the same between last/new.
I mean, can you think of any titles that have been majorly different in features when released same day cross gen?
+EDIT+
Not saying it isnt believable, just is odd.

I'm not sure why you find it odd. This is also the game that has cut out a good deal of its content and is holding it hostage under the guise of a season pass. "Early access" to something on the disk and 2 "day one dlc" missions are each ridiculous business practices in their own right, but combining them both in an unproven franchise boasting a system that has not, as of yet, ever been implemented successfully... Well, the phrase buyer beware comes to mind. It absolutely doesn't surprise me that they would release a game for last gen even though they can't make the game work on last gen, just to get money from the people who haven't upgraded yet.
And to answer your question- no. I can't think of any titles that differed significantly when released on current and last gen consoles concurrently. So far, if a last gen console couldn't successfully run a game only the next gen consumers would get the game. But I'm sure this will set a precedent, and going forward this will be how last gen keeps from being retired.

which unfortunately i think it will be cross gen for 1-2 more years with how popular ps3 and 360 were, hindering the capabilities of the one/ps4 versions until they decide to dedicate themselves to the current generation of consoles.

I definitely think it's time. We are a year in, with only a handful of games.

I agree with you but they aren't going to cut out the large install bases of those consoles just yet.

I agree with both of these.
I do have to say that I am already seeing some "next-gen" looking stuff. Thief looked a little better on xb1, and Titanfall and Wolfenstein both looked a lot better and played smoother.
Metro looks much better so far, but it doesn't quite count as cross gen since the newer version was worked on afterwards and given specific improvements. Same for Tomb Raider.
All 4 of these show some promise, and also the recent increase to xb1's GPU is a good sign, but I do agree that it is still some time before we see truly "next gen" stuff on our "current gen" xboners. PS4 players may get better stuff sooner since devs didn't have to deal with early limitations like Kinect and gimped performance.

Well duhhhhh games look better on xb1.
I wasn't referring to graphics regarding gaming for this gen, but developers cutting last gen consoles loose and developing games just for this gen. Like shadows of mordor. They wasted resources on developing a stripped down 360 port because they knew from the beginning that the 360 couldn't handle the stuff they were putting into the xb1 version. Those resources could maybe have been used to make sure the xbox 1 version actually lives up to the hype. It's a new ip and needs to be flawless or it's not going to be successful.
I just think it's time developers design games that push the limits of current gen technology, and leave last gen to crap publishers like deep silver who don't care about quality anyway.

They could develop a terd, slap the LOTR label on it and still make a profit. The real question is if it will be a legitimate title outside of it's die hard fan base. From what I have seen it should be. But then again I also thought War in the North would be decent
