The last series of books I read was the Twilight series and although I'll admit the main character was an absolute idiot and the story was a bit lacking, it was an easy and enjoyable read. The first in a long while for me. Not to mention I was forced to read the first one. The movie was Horrendous. Amusing the first time around but downright unbearable the second time I was dragged to see it.
Some of my favorites were The Persian Boy and Fire From Heaven by Mary Renault, The Birth of Venus by Sarah Dunant, Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden(who apparently went to my HS o.o), Coin Locker Babies by Ryu Murakami(This one is a bit on the weird but, very good), Interview with a Vampire by Anne Rice and Girl with a Pearl Earring by Tracy Chevalier.
I need to find time to read again.

Twilight is all I've been hearing about lately. Luckily, I've yet to succumb to the peer pressure. Maybe someday I'll read the first one, but I'm going to wait a few years for when the hype dies down so that for now I can genuinely deny having read it.

It's just like when Harry Potter came out. I VEHEMENTLY protested reading that book. Everyone and their mother were reading this book and there was so much crazy hype over it that I just didn't want to read it. Then, out of the blue, my Junior year teacher made us read it.....and this man never made us read anything that wasn't required. I'd say 85% of our grade was based off of journals and vocab. Next thing you know I just need to know how the series ends. Then all of a sudden it's 2k7 and I'm still reading the damn series
At least I didn't have to wait for the end of Twilight I had all of them done in less than a week.
