Wheel of Time series is a really great bunch of fantasy. It has a lot of original ideas combined with comfy old conventions and tropes.
It has a lot of different protagonists, though, so around mid-point in the series you are juggling a ton of stories simultaneously and it makes it seem like each one is moving agonizingly slow--especially for the "main" character Rand al Thor who is still basically doing the same stuff in Book 11 that he was doing in Book 4.
Very well written overall and it goes by fast despite how long it is.
If you're looking for more fantasy past that, I also recommend George R. R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire series. There will be 7 total of them with 5 coming out soon.

Journey to the Center of the Earth, by Jules Verne. Another classic. Why is it a classic? I dunno. Snore fest. Don't get me wrong, it's ok. There are just so many other books out there that are so much better.

I just finished reading The Sign by Raymond Khoury.
It is an awesome adventure with good action, interesting characters that develop organically, and a very compelling story that is paced perfectly--it combines alot of science with small amounts of religion and politics in a fresh, interesting manner. The included Afterward lets you know what Mr. Khoury really wanted to say but, over the course of the book, logical & rational arguments that are diametrically opposed to the author's preferred stance are presented and even supported. It takes a hell of a writer to paint a pretty picture from three radically different perspectives, and he keeps it interesting over the 547 pages.
I thoroughly, heartily recommend this to people that enjoy stories in the vein of Dan Brown's Angels & Demons and Da Vinci Code. While not quite as aptly written, The Sign is the superior book because it has a large-but-enthralling story with an excellent array of characters and doesn't have to rely on shock value outside of its own context.

I recently finished two novels. The first one was the second Mass Effect novel, Ascension. It was great, really gave some good background info on Cerberus and what their intentions are. I also read Old Man's War which was also great. I bought it for $3 at a discount store. It was well worth that kind of price tag. If you enjoyed Starship Troopers, you'll love this too.

Wow, somebody else bumped this before I had the chance to. I actually just finished book 12 of the Wheel of Time. It was fantastic! I'm taking a break from the fantasy and enjoying a little non-fiction. I picked up To Kill the Irishman: The War that Crippled the Mafia.
It's the true story of fearless Irish-American racketeer Danny Green who takes on the mob in Cleveland in the 1970s. The end result is the fall of several Mafia families after a number of key members turn snitch. It's been made into a movie titled The Irishman starring Ray Stevenson, of HBO's Rome, as Danny Green along with Christopher Walken and Val Kilmer.

I'm reading:
A little about it:
Patch Kinkade is a semiretired member of the infamous Infidelz Motorcycle Club. His quiet life in Arizona is disrupted when five members of the Infidelz are murdered in a meat locker with a wad of counterfeit bills stuffed in their mouths. Patch turns detective and learns his associates ran afoul of an Eastern European mob headed by Nicholai and Vladimir Rachov. In order to extract the correct measure of revenge, Patch will need to get into the prison where one of the Rachovs is incarcerated and then get out in order to kill the other one. The second Patch Kinkade adventure is an action novel in which the protagonists are the bad guys, but they are not the evil guys. If you want to experience the life of a hard-drinkin', dope-smokin', violence-prone motorcycle gang member (with a heart of gold), Barger and coauthors Keith and Kent Zimmerman supply the vicarious ticket.
This is the sequel to a book that I have mentioned before by the same author, same character Patch Kinkade and that book is
and a little about THAT book is:
When Marco, one of the most respected members of Infidelz, California's top motorcycle gang, is murdered in cold blood, the gang is obligated to respond. They send an emissary to their former president, Patch Kinkade, who's opted for the quiet life in the desert. Patch reluctantly heads back to Oakland, either to negotiate a peace or mobilize his troops. This is the literary equivalent of a Roger Corman biker flick. The good guys are bad guys, the bad guys worse, and the cops worse yet. Plus the chicks--sorry, nothing PC here--are hot, compliant, and irrelevant. The conclusion does include a family-values moment in which Patch "adopts" a fallen comrade's orphaned son, but this is still a biker book: lots of testosterone, lots of thousand-yard stares, and lots of kicks to the groin. Former Hell's Angel Barger's autobiography was a best-seller, and he has a built-in audience of bike-riding yuppies who will love kickin' some vicarious butt while sippin' a bottled water
I know I have put a lot of text into this post so I'll leave it at this, if your looking for a nail biting, edge of your seat book from page 1 to the end of the book, pick up these two books, GREAT is the only word to explain it

Currently I am reading:
I'm about 130 pages in and it's quite good. I have to wait till the 25th before they ship out the softbound copy of the 2nd one. It won't be released till the 25th, but I already have the 3rd in the series. Tomorrow I'll be buying the 4th one and then I'll have to wait till next month to get the 5th book.
