I recently finished Shutter Island and I have to say it really was good. I had actually heard a lot of positive word-of-mouth, so I was thinking it was going to be crap. But nope, it was a really good story, written well and full of twisty darkness. I'm actually still pondering the conclusion in my head and am really looking forward to that upcoming movie.
Right now I am reading Paul of Dune. I have read all of the original Dune cycle books as well as a few of the newer prequel and offshoot ones. I have to say, as much as I am enjoying the story in here, the whole thing seems kind of poorly written. I know Brian Herbert & Kevin Anderson can write well because House Atreides and Harkonnen were forking great. But Paul of Dune... I don't know exactly what it is. It's like they keep stating the obvious in very plain words.
Since this book is an "interquel" mostly set between the first and second books in the original series, you do already know most of what came before and what's going to come after. Still, they waste a lot of paragraphs with Muad'Dib gazing off into nothingness and telling himself how his jihad is simultaneously good and bad. There is a lot of side action with some of the great characters from the early parts of the original Dune stuff that actually fleshes them out well. Overall this is still a great book for Dune fans, but only because they're Dune fans, not because it's a great book.

I finished "The Road" not too long ago. Chilling stuff, can't wait to see the movie and see if it lives up.

Just finished book six of The Wheel of Time and moving on to book seven, A Crown of Swords. Looks like I definitely won't be done going through them again before the first volume of the last book comes out next week.

Halfway through book 9 of The Wheel of Time, Winters Heart. Re-reading them cause they finally released the first volume of the 12th and final book this past November.
