I've read tons since I was last here, but I'll list the best.
I read the first three Inheritance novels again, and to be quite honest, didn't enjoy them as much this time around. Paolini's a fairly talented author, but the first time I read them, I had not been exposed to A Song of Ice and Fire and Robert Jordan's works. I didn't appreciate how juvenille Paolini's work really is when I was 15 or 16. Still, an enjoyable series, and worth a read. I haven't read the finale, so it's hard for me to give it an overall score, but I'd probably give them 8's for now.
Pillars of the Earth - outstanding. I loved how the different classes of people/workers ended up being connected towards the end. Overall, a very deep novel, with wonderfully fleshed out characters, and an extremely tight plot. I struggle to find much wrong with the novel, so I'd probably go 9/10, possibly 10/10
1984 - very profound novel that raises many questions about the involvement of government within our everyday lives. I thought it was a very intriguing novel, and was very eye-opening in a sense, but was quite boring at times, so I'd probably go 9/10
Farenheit 451 - paled in comparison to 1984, in my opinion. There didn't seem to be as much backstory, and was a little too thin. 8/10
The Road - great novel, with an equally good movie adaptation. I loved the overall grit of the novel, and how well the novel came to life in my own mind. 9/10

I am currently going through Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett. But I am not reading it, I borrowed the audio book from our local library and I listen to it while I work on my ipod.

Right now I am in the middle of book 2 of the Coruscant Nights trilogy. Most of you know and those who don't will be able to tell pretty quick that I am a Star Wars freak..... ergo, most of what I read comes from that galaxy far, far away.

I think our society is more reflective of a hybrid mix of 1984 and Aldous Huxley's Brave New World with a more noticeable slant towards BNW. If you haven't read it yet U7ysses, it fits right in with your motif there of novels about futuristic visions.

I just got done with Pillars of the Earth. I have to say that I have read about some EVIL characters in the past, but Sir William is the worst of them all.

Abner hopes to race the boat some day, but his partner is making it hard for him to realise his dreams. Joshua York put up the money for the Fevre Dream, but now rumours have started about his the company he keeps, his odd eating habits and strange hours. As the Dream sails the great river, it leaves in it's a wake one too many dark tales, forcing Abner to face down the man who made his dreams become reality.
I love the Fire and Ice series so I saw this book by George RR Martin and am going to give it a shot. I seems really good so far.
Just finished this. Martin is a great writer and I loved this book.
Now to make the plung and start this series.

Heh, well it's been good knowing you dude. There are so freaking many Wheel of Time books, we probably won't hear from you until doomsday in December 2012.
I started reading the series and was enjoying it a lot, but I stopped when I found out the author had croaked and the future/ending of the series was in jeopardy. I need to get back at some point.
Also, that is the exact paperback version I have of that book. It's hilarious that Piers Anthony said it looked like "the next major fantasy epic" because it literally did turn out to be that. Nothing came close until George R. R. Martin started cranking out his stuff.

That was the case until Robert Jordan's wife asked Brandon Sanderson to help finish the final volume which they broke up into 3 books since Jordan had pretty much left a rough draft and mapped out how he wanted to finish the series. I think Sanderson's done a terrific job stepping in. The final volume, A Memory of Light, is expected to be released in the Spring 2012.

Yeah, now that I know they will indeed finish the series and it is in capable hands, I am going to get back in where I left off. ...as soon as I figure out where that was. Somewhere in Lord of Chaos.

I finally got around to finishing The Night Eternal (Book 3 of The Strain Trilogy) last week and now I'm starting the Millennium Trilogy. I found this hardcover set for less than $20 on amazon.

I've been trying to read Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors by Carl Sagan but got sidetracked (as I do).
I will finish a book at some point.
