Hatchet II (Blu-ray, 2nd viewing) – a passable enough slasher I guess, but isn’t on par with the original for sure. It doesn’t have the same sense of humor the original did, and all of the characters just felt like fodder for Victor Crowley. The acting in this felt like a low-budget horror movie, whereas the first didn’t.

Hatchet III (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – I rewatched the others so I’d be primed for this, as it just came out last week. This got off to a decent start, but quickly fell slack with an even higher body count than the 2nd, and again, most of the characters were just pure fodder. If you were looking for a nice, neat conclusion to the series, this isn’t it. I will give them some credit for making some acknowledgements to the others; they did a good job of making them all feel connected. All in all, it’s a better horror series than most low-budget stuff, but fails to live up to the mark set by the original.

Morning Glory (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – it’s not a terribly original movie, but it’s a welcome break from all of the raunchy romantic comedies that are released so frequently. I’m not a saint, but this is good, clean fun. That’s a good thing sometimes. There’s quite a bit of talent here, and all turn in solid performances. Again, don’t expect too much in the way of plot or originality, but it’s not bad.
6/10
Pain & Gain (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – I’m a fan of Bay’s work, but this is definitely a break from his usual fare. It does have some action, but this is really more of a dark comedy. All of the leads are really good in it, and there are some genuinely hilarious moments. As much as I enjoyed it, I think I need to see it again. It’s so over the top it’s almost like it’s hard to follow.
7/10
Black Hawk Down (Blu-ray, 3rd viewing) – I’d say this is probably a top 5 war/action movie for me, and though the action scenes come close to matching the intensity of Saving Private Ryan, the characters aren’t as well developed and the setting isn’t on par, either. No matter how great a movie it is, Mogadishu isn’t going to be as compelling as anything set in WWII. Overall, it’s really good, and despite the fact that it doesn’t really focus too much on any of the characters, they’re all good.
8/10
District 9 (Blu-ray, 2nd viewing) – I think you could make a case for this being one of the most original science fiction films to come out in recent memory. I love the transition the main character makes throughout the film, and for a movie made on a relatively small budget, the effects are really good. As far as sci-fi goes, you’d be hard pressed to find many that can bring as much to the table as this can.
8/10
No need to for a review as to why i rate it this. Do yourself a favor and watch it for yourself!
Great psychological thriller from Danny Boyle. James McAvoy is great and you can't go wrong with Rosario Dawson's shaved pubis.
