OT
Just watched Warm Bodies. I give it a 4 out 5.
It was nice to see a different kind of zombie movie. This one you follow a zombie who is a bit different than the rest. He saves this chick and blah blah blah. its a great movie. Watch it.
A bunch of short skits merged together as Dennis Quaid tries to sell his movie idea. The game of truth and dare with Halle Berry is very funny. Definitely a different kind of movie.
What's better having sex or boosting cars?
The Rock is definitely multidimensional.
Land of the Dead (DVD, 2nd viewing) – didn’t care for this too much the first time around, but I enjoyed it much more this time. I watched this originally shortly after seeing the Dawn of the Dead remake. I wasn’t expecting this to be so cheesy and campy after DotD. Expecting the cheesiness this time around, I enjoyed it much, much more.
7/10
Observe and Report (DVD, 2nd viewing) – surprisingly dark comedy, with some genuinely funny moments thrown in to the nastiness. It’s definitely not everyone’s cup of tea, but I like it pretty well. I’m not a big Seth Rogen fan, but this is great for him because he can just go way over the top, as he’s want to do.
6/10
Horrible Bosses (DVD, 2nd viewing) – wow, 2 decent comedies in a row, I must be dreaming. This movie works because everyone plays their part extremely well. All of the boss characters are well played, and all 3 of the main leads do good work here. I don’t find myself laughing out loud much when I’m alone, but there were definitely some good scenes here.
6.5/10
Carriers (DVD, 2nd viewing) – a solid post-apocalyptic film that deserved a bigger budget and a wider release. Focuses a lot more on the impact a massive virus would have on the relationships between people, in place of the violence and action some others have focused on. Good acting all around, and a decent plot make this one worth seeing.
6/10
Hall Pass (DVD, 2nd viewing) – decent, middle of the road comedy by the Farelley Brothers. Does a decent job of staying entertaining throughout, and it was nice to see Owen back on the horse after his recent suicide attempt. Treads ground we’ve seen before, but manages to stay upright.
6/10
American Psycho (Blu-ray, 3rd viewing) – I’ve always liked this movie, even though it has problems. I think I’m less a fan of the movie, and more a fan of the character, Patrick Bateman. I’m not a psychotic killer (really, I’m not), but I’m well familiar with the guise that’s necessary to “fit in” sometimes. Bale as PB is a top 10 performance in my book.
8.5/10
Silence of the Lambs (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – I’ve had this in the backlog for a long time, and having recently watched Red Dragon, I decided to give this a go. I thought the movie was pretty good, but the performances are what make it stand out. Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins are the obvious standouts, but let’s not forget Ted Levine, who’s also great as Buffalo Bill. I don’t know if I’m in love with it as much as some, but it’s definitely an outlier in its genre.
8/10
Warm Bodies (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – I thought it was pretty decent. It blends three genres pretty well: comedy, horror, and romance, better than most would. I thought there were some genuinely endearing moments, and there was enough action to keep it from getting too sappy. I don’t think it will have the lasting impact Zombieland had when it came out, but it’s still worth seeing.
7/10
Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – I generally like these action horror flicks, so no surprise that I enjoyed it better than most did. It may also put me in the minority, but so far I’m enjoying these modern retellings of the old fairy tales. Anyway, good action throughout, and the leads are good enough. Check your brain at the door, and you’ll like it too.
6.5/10
Burn After Reading (Blu-ray, 3rd viewing) – I decided to round out this week’s watching with another Coen Brothers film. As always, the casting is knockout, and so is the story. Clooney takes the cake as the strongest in this one, which is impressive considering his opposition.
8/10
MIB 3- 6/10
