Just watched the Collection-7/10, thought it was better than the first.
The Debt (DVD) – very entertaining thriller staring Sam Worthington, Helen Mirren and Jessica Chastain. I don’t think it received a very wide theatrical release, which is sad considering how good of a film it is. It’s an interesting premise, and the interaction between the characters only adds to it. If you liked Munich, Taken, or the Bourne series, you’ll definitely want to give this at least a rental. *COOL OBSERVATION* - Zero Dark Thirty ends with Jessica Chastain’s character getting on a plane and the ramp closing; The Debt opens with Jessica Chastain’s character getting off a plane and the ramp closing behind her. Totally useless trivia, but I thought it was cool.
7.5/10
Hanna (DVD) – not really what I was expecting, but pretty decent nonetheless. I was expecting something more along the lines of The Debt or The Bourne series in terms of tone, but it actually reminded me of something that Tarantino would do. The leads are all good and there’s some solid action, but it doesn’t really do anything to separate itself from a bloated, tired genre.
6/10
Tron: Legacy (DVD) – I haven’t played the games, or watched the original movie, so I knew next to nothing going in. Still, it’s visually impressive, and anything with Bridges in it should at least get some consideration. Hedlund’s competent in the lead, and keeps things moving nicely, too. Early on I was really confused by some of the references, but I was satisfied by the end. I thought they might have tried cramming a bit much into the 2 hour runtime, especially the ending, which just came out of nowhere. I’m just going to assume that this was the first in a planned series.
6.5/10
Last King of Scotland (DVD) – worthy of all the critical acclaim its received. James McAvoy turned in a good performance, but Forest Whitaker is exceptional as the Ugandan dictator, Idi Amin. From what I understand, McAvoy’s character and the events surrounding his and Amin’s relationship are fictional, but obviously the events taking place in Uganda are factual. Despite this, the movie never really seems implausible, and everything comes together nicely in the end.
7/10
The Patriot (DVD) – one of those movies that’s better than the sum of its parts. Yes, it’s essentially Braveheart set during the American Revolution. Yes, it’s overly dramatized and ridden with clichés. Yes, it’s overlong. Yes, there are loads of historical inaccuracies. However, it’s still a good movie. I credit it mostly to Mel Gibson’s ability to play these average joe turned hero roles very well.
7.5/10
Hotel Rwanda (DVD) – I’ve always been impressed by Don Cheadle’s acting chops, and this movie only serves to add to that impression. Great acting, good story, and some truly emotional moments make this an easy recommendation.
6.5/10
The Box (DVD) - starts really, really strong, but ultimately succumbs to an overly ludicrous plot. Feels a lot like a Phillip K. Dick story mixed with The Invasion type premise. It's something different and even though it's not necessarily a great movie, it stays interesting throughout.
6.5/10
babysitter wanted-this one is a remake of the same title movie in the 90's, liked the original film and this one was more of the same but with a fresher look, if you end up renting this one and likeing it then check out the house of the devil & the original babysitter wanted films, both are great "girl alne in house being stalked by psyco" films.3.5/5
unaware- i couldn't resisit renting this one even though i knew it was going to be a crapfest, the whole film is based on a "self shot home movie" made by a couple visiting their relatives in texas, long story short the find out the boy's uncle has hidden secret "alien" shiznit in his barn, they freak out and then the film ends in a "these people were never found" and this "footage" is real and we did nothing to change it, plain & simple people, STAY AWAY FROM THIS FILM! it's garbage and will waste your time & $$$. 1/5
number 23- good dark thriller with jim carey aas the lead role, the movie was good but some of it felt kinda slow or out of place, carey did a great job as the lead which i can't tell you much about, if you like dark storys with twists that keep you guessing this one is for you. 3.25/5

Thats good that there is a great review for it, My buddy said he was very dissapointed with it, so I guess Ill see for myself, Def looking forward to it tho
The actual story/action was better than I expected. I wanted more game references but what was there was good. I redbox'd this so I am interested in tracking down a retail version to watch the bonus features. It was weird but nice hearing "Dr Steve Brule" talk and not be completely absurd.
Texas Chainsaw 3D - 2/5 NNR
I am a big fan of the 70's original, I enjoyed the 2003 reboot, and really liked the unrated version of The Beginning prequel. I went in to this new one with no idea what to expect. Ultimately I found it boring and tasteless. The only redeeming quality IMO was the way it looked all grainy with colors slightly off--sort of artsy with a grindhouse feel.
I rate it a 4.5/5 as the beginning of the movie was slow and unappealing.
2.5/5
Overall I think the movie was ok. My wife didn't care for it. She said "It didn't scare me once". Even though she jumped 6 times. I'll give it a 7.5/10. I knew it wasn't going to be a complete remake of the original but every time I saw something from the original (Ash's car/chainsaw/shotgun) Bruce Campbell's voice popped in my head. "It got into my hand and went bad, so I lopped it off at the wrist". Little things like that.
Was there any scenes after the credits? Anyone stay and find out?
