Well, today the other shoe dropped on the crAPPLE and iFAG people that adopted early to the iPhone. Steve Jobs unveiled the iPod Touch, which is a slightly thinner version of the iPhone that does everything the iPhone does except phone. Cost is 8GB for $299 and 16GB for $399. Its been all of three months of the iPhone, and already Apple is sticking it to their most loyal fans.

On top of that, every iPod is getting redone or replaced, even more reason to keep dumping money in the apple product line.

The used car salesman strikes again!

Too bad the iphone is part of att, quite possibly the crappiest phone provider EVER. If it were part of say, verizon, I would buy one of the touch's in a second.

Honestly, why buy an IPhone when this IPod touch adds Itunes portal, wi-fi, better battery and no crappy ATT service? You could see this coming from a mile away.

BTW, I am not slamming the iPod touch, looks fantastic and would get my money with more storage. I am slamming Jobs and apple for continually screwing over the early adopters to their technology by bringing out the latest and greatest before the other technology has a chance to even get out of warranty...

dude Z! Man you are a cool guy but you are such a MS fanboy!!!! First off this is not replacing the Iphone because its NOT a cell phone. And second they are upgrading all the Ipods tell me why that this makes you mad???? There old Ipods still work so why buy a new one of you don't want? O and about that wi-fi only being on the Ipod touch, that is wrong if you read the whole thing it said that there will be a update putting this on the Iphone for FREE.

plus this things almost never brake unless you abuse them so you get your money out of this stuff, my family owns 4 Ipods and what we do is buy one new one at a time and pass down are old one to a littler kid, I will be doing this soon to get the new nano or Ipod touch.

But I do not understand Z do you not believe in companies making better stuff?

And I know that apple did plan showing the Ipod touch after the Iphone because they knew that they would loose allot of sales, but hay thats business and any other company that made products as good of them would have done the same.

O and they are making the Iphone $200 cheeper!!

How does criticizing Steve Jobs and Apple make me a MS fanboy? You are exactly correct about ITouch not being a cell phone, which was my point. How many people bought the iPhone for the non-cellular capabilities? Thats where the stink is. Apple releases a product that everyone wanted sans the biggest thing holding it back, the garbage AT&T service. Wi-Fi was in IPhone since day one, that why it occasionally has fast internet service...

Thats fine, but apple is notorious for bringing out the latest and greatest before the current model has run its course.

Quote by alzapa:

I do, but not after rushing some incomplete product to market and watching heir most loyal fans gobble it up, only to drop the price or improve upon it before the warranty is expired.

LOL, they screwed every apple fan that wanted the ITouch features in an Ipod by forcing them to buy the IPhone. So Apple got the sales from the hardware and a cut of the monthly fees. Brilliant marketing plan if you don't mind stepping on those that made the company what it is....

Quote by alzapa:

Because they raped enough cash out of their adoring public to slash the price and make it competitive with their latest and greatest toy.

Z, when it comes to Apple products, you're opinions are radical and ridiculous. You're being just plain ignorant. The iPhone is a cell phone, as you might have guessed by the name. The iPod touch isn't a phone. That right there is enough to counter your opinion that this screws early adopters of Apple products.

Technology is an ever changing thing. If you buy a piece of technological equipment, you expect it to be replaced. I think one of the greatest things about Apple is how quick their development is. There's always something new around the corner. Other companies create one model and recycle it for years and years, even when the technology and components exist to to improve it. THOSE are the people that are getting the shaft.

Radical and Ridiculous? Sorry, they really aren't. I base my info on facts. The bottom line is that Apple shipped the IPhone to the general public and had many people buying it for all the functions other than the phone service. The ITouch is a better IPhone (w/o the phone) with a better battery, smaller and some enhanced services. How can you justify and support a company that knowingly dangled the bait of a radical product while having what the vast majority of people REALLY wanted sitting on the back shelf? Human nature is to go after the latest and greatest, which many people did. The problem is that Apple got them onto a two-year phone deal (which they are also making money on) all the while knowing that the ITouch would have outsold the IPhone by leaps and bounds.

What you consider their greatest asset, I consider it close to a Consumer scam. Apple constantly brings out new products or "better" products within a relatively short time, capitalizing on their fans to buy them. I don't isagree about rehashed products, but why does Apple have these updated products ready to go so qyick? Is it because they have them in development and are knowingly sending out an inferior product to get the quick sale? That is why I constantly nip at their heels for screwing over their loyal base, and why I criticize you guys (and all apple fans) for not seeing that you are being had.

I can't change your minds and we will have to agree to disagree I guess.

LOL I will stay out of the debate because I am no good at debating but what I will say is, when apple makes a new product it is a better product than there last model. Such as the Ipods are getting better and never have flaws. But when MS tries to make a new and better product every 5 years or so they have bugs and aren't worth buying until a half a year later when they have all the bugs fixed. *looks at Windows vista*

And I agree with pasta why make us wait five year to get a new and enhanced product when they have the technology available now???

The majority of purchasers of the iPhone did not buy it solely for it's interface and other functionality. No one would be foolish to spend $2000 just for everything but the phone. They bought it to bring all their devices into one, which it does well, and the iPod Touch does not. These are two different devices for different devices. People aren't as naive as you think. I'm sure many realized that multitouch is the way Apple is going with their iPods. It also had been about a year since the iPods were updated. It's not that difficult to put two and two together. People can make their own decisions.

People aren't being hoodwinked by Apple. They simply provide the best product they can, as soon as they can. We are not being had. You can fabricate all the conspiracies and evil corporate ideas you want, but if you follow 'the facts,' they don't lead you to a scam.

Well why not announce it sooner then? 'Okay we have this product out right now but in a few months we're gonna have this. Your choice if you want it now or the better version later.'

that's all I'm gonna say cause i don't wanna get in any arguments.

Unfortunately, the way business works, you have to be Nostradamus and attempt to figure out for yourself if a company is going to come out with a "1.5" model of anything.

Case in point: When the Xbox 360 was just a few months old, there were plenty of people who said that it would not shock them if there was a newer version that came out within a year because of the lack of HDMI as well as the size of the HDD.

Was it really a shock when he heard about the 360 Elite?

This is what Steve Jobs thinks of the loyal apple fan base that already bought an iPhone (Interview on USA Today):

Q: What do you say to customers who just bought a new iPhone for $599? Sorry?

A: That's technology. If they bought it this morning, they should go back to where they bought it and talk to them. If they bought it a month ago, well, that's what happens in technology.

Ouch. I don't think a lot of people are feeling the love from Steve right now....For those that don't know what this is, Apple dropped the price of the iPhone by $200 (to $399) just a little over two months from the original on-sale date. From what I am seeing this morning, Jobs and Apple are primarily getting sliced up from investors, analysts and the press for yesterdays announcements...
