Z, I don't think Steve Jobs can ever appease you. Anything he does, including giving out $100 to customers he really doesn't owe anything, you criticize.
When I spoke of a 'smart business move,' I wasn't talking about the price drop. I was talking about the $100 store credit. It improves Apple's look, and really won't cost them all that much. Apple didn't screw anyone, and you're one of the minority with that opinion.
I'm still not seeing how that's mocking. I agree with most of what he said in the open later. We've already been over the nature of technology. The price drop doesn't harm anyone. Those people were willing to pay $600 for their iPhones. Everything he says or does, you spin and pick the worst possible meaning. You are looking for a reason to hate him.
Also, there's no way you have all the details. I absolutely hate when people blindly criticize. It's the same deal with all the criticism for the President. You can't tell me you know the cost of all the components, how they've fluctuated, or any of the other factors went into the price drop. Steve Jobs isn't a dumb ass. No one would have a $200 price drop off a $600 product 2 months in for the hell of it, or just to screw over some loyal Apple fanatics. Get real.
Again, we will have to agree to disagree. Everyone of my PR senses is tingling that this is a major backpedal and CYO move by Apple.
I know you don't think I use information in my posts, but I read the technology and business sections on the web everyday. Apple has seen its stock slide over $10 (7%) in the last two days on their recent news.
Regardless of what you or I think, the majority of Financial Analysts, Tech media and tech columnists think the moves by Apple yesterday and Today (price drop, and holding back the iTouch) were nothing but poor and mis-handled (not my words, theirs).
I know you guys think I hate Apple, which is mostly true. I like iTunes and I like the iPod. Just about everything else they offer is IMO overpriced, over hyped and not worth the money. I dislike Jobs and his Ad agency for portraying and then fanning the flames of arrogance for Apple products and those that use them. I dislike their continual pumping out of "new" technology at a rate much higher than the norm, while they knowingly have the next model just about ready to roll on the back shelf.
And lastly, I dislike the Apple fanatics. I have worked in Ad agencies and PR firms which use Macs extensively. The Apple users have an aura of superiority about them that starts with Steve Jobs and cascades down. All Apple fans can deny it, but it is there and non-apple fans see it. This isn't about PC or MS Zapa (because I know you will try to take it there), this is strictly about Apple.
I have thrown my cards on the table, so now you know why I have the opinions I do.
