Done with my first playthrough...didn't set any speed records I'm sure - 40 hours, but I did almost every single sidequest
I agree with Mask. The CPU players that followed you around would have been much better with actual people. Not to mention even on NORMAL I had trouble with the final boss because I ended up having to give direct commands to every member to do what I wanted - the tactics system is only so good.
Still thought it was a very good game, I still haven't played Mass Effect so I can't really compare it. On to playthrough #2....
Wow only 40 hours with EVERY side quest? Oblivion took me like 120 hours to do EVERYTHING not including DLC. Fallout took like 65 hours for all the achievements... Is it a short game?
I guess. The value in it is there are a lot of ways you can go with the game. I'm working on my second playthrough now.... I'm still enjoying it though which is the important part

It can sort of go either way.
You tell your character to attack a target and they start auto-swinging/shooting, but then you trigger abilities/spells manually.
The game pauses when you bring up the radial menu, and you can issue commands from there which will be carried out when you unpause.
Otherwise, the game relies on tactics you specify to control what your other party members are doing. The default settings are pretty good but I like that you can make your own changes.
that's kind of neat.
do you have to revive people, or can you just do your own thing?
now that i'm hearing it's more like oblivion i'm interested, but i absolutely hate babysitting npcs.
also... are there achievements for beating the game with each character?
that would seem a bit much...

People are revived after fight but if they went down then they might have a major injury when they revive, and major injuries are a little more difficult to fix than just lost HP.
If a character just loses HP but doesn't go down during a fight, you get a bunch back once combat ends. It's nice--you don't have to constantly chug health potions to do damage control.
I believe you can even set up the NPC's tactics where they will heal themselves or use some restorative item if their health drops below a certain amount but I'm not certain.
There is a seperate 10G Achievement for completing each of the 6 origin stories(City Elf, Dalish Elf, Human Noble, Dwarf Noble, Dwarf Commoner, Mage [any race]), and I think that with a little tenacity you could clear most or all of the other Achievements with a single character play through.

I just did some reading up and apparently it will take a minimum of 2.5 playthroughs - 2 for each of the major plot paths/decisions, and a 3rd because you need to have one of each type of character up to level 20 (Warrior, Mage and Rogue).
Also, I just wanted to say that the first thing I did in the game was play every origin. They take 30 minutes to an hour depending on how many questions you ask, and they are all pretty fun.
If/when you play the game, I'd recommend at least trying 3 different origins before you choose 1 to go through the game with. Definitely try a mage, a human noble, and one of the dwarf or elf stories, depending on what you like more.
Lastly, it's worth mentioning that for probably the first half of the game, you won't need to babysit your NPC's at all, and during the latter half it will only require a little bit of tactic setting in the menu.

Oh and I found a trick to level your character up really fast....lol So it would really only require 2.1 playthroughs as you can get your character to level 20 uberfast

Noah I think you would enjoy Magna Carta 2 much more than DAO.

i just looked up the achievements for both. i think i'll be passing on DA. at least for awhile.
MC2's don't look too bad, but how long does it take to max the skill trees?
EDIT: nevermind... just checked out an achievement walkthrough.
i will be passing on MC2 as well lol.

Sacred 2 was an easy 1k because I loved every minute of it, I kept playing that game for weeks after I completed it. I know a lot of people hate on the game but I loved it.

Honestly, I'm thinking of giving Sacred 2 a shot. I will probably pick it up after the Holiday Season as I will have to many other games to play in the next month or so.
