Which? This quote pyramid is confusing!!
The opinion that he was Gay. Not sure where that would even come from?
@Sean: Saturn is dope but the PS1 version's of multi platform titles tend to be a bit better. I remember the Saturn version of Suikoden was specifically inferior.
(Left PS, Right Saturn)

I actually spent the most play-time with Suikoden III. I liked the interweaving stories among characters.

Suikoden III is definitely the longest (and highest selling entry) in the series. I would rate II the best overall but it's fairly rare. $200 + if you want a used copy now days.
For noobs to the series I would recommend Suikoden V on PS2.
Suikoden II, Star Ocean II, Valkyrie Profile and Final Fantasy VIII are all in my top 10 greatest RPG's of all time list and were not even out of the PS1 library.

All of these. Alllllll of these. Throw on Chrono Cross and Vagrant Story, and you have how I drowned my sorrows when I was 19-21.

Xenogears.

Nw but for true we can all agree that the playstation jRPG days were glorious, and the best part is that it isn't even nostalgia wow remembering them better than they were. If you go back and play any one of these beasties we're talking about, they are still fucking fun and they still deliver the goods.

Legend of Dragoon and Persona 2 need some love too.
@ Meta: I completely agree. The titles I mentioned are timeless. That's why PSP re-released half of them with minimal trimmings.

It's damn close but I'm going to have to go with PS1. The subsequent PS2 sequels of most of these games did exceed the originals nor did PS2 originate as many great franchises. The two consoles together made up of 90% of my gaming growing up. They are definitely #1 and #2 of best game libraries no matter which way you lean.
Edit: Tales of Destiny (First game in the Tales series) was also PS1.

It looks like me against the computer in Madden with penalties turned off!
