You're absolutely right it's prolly more around 64%, my fear is that if we allow one bill to be passed what would stop them from passing more intrusive bills further dictating what we purchase. Plus I can honestly say I've rarely seen a child being able to purchase a mature rated game anyway especially nowadays. My point is the children are still going to play the games, either through other friends who's parents aren't as outraged at their children playing violent games or the parents themselves are going to purchase them. You keep talking about PORN and ADULTS but how easy is it for a child to view pornography? Way easier than him being able to purchase a violent game, there are steps that can be taken to prevent it without passing a completely foolish law.
Funny story, I was at the local Gamestop and a kid, about 13 I guess, walks to the cashier and says, "I have my Mom's ID with me. Can I purchase this [M rated] game?" made me lulz so hard.

Did any of you catch the article in Game Informer about this law? It was a good read and makes me both agree and disagree with the law.
I agree that stores should pay more attention to not selling to minors, but this law wants to scrap the ESRB and use a new system, and also, 10 other states are now interested in something similar. Will all 10 states have the same guidelines? Or will each state have it's own rules?
I'm gonna try and find a link.

Double Post:

It really is a decent read, and covers both sides of the situation. If you are on either side of this, you should read it.
Like I said, it made me agree in some areas with the law, yet in others I am still against it.

Yes, i'm against the law as well, considering I also believe that it is some parent's fault for letting their kids get games such as Gears, GTA, ar Saints Row, which imo are some of the more "mature-ish" type of games which not as many minors play (since they are all playing CoD lol). But really, as i've seen people say before, why do they not do the same to movies? Since many of rated R movies have much worse content than some M games, why don't movies get that type of warning as well?

I'm sure it's only a matter of time that all media begin to fall under one universal system of rating. The thing is that there has been movie ratings for a long time. Video games have only recently become "valid" (for lack of a better term) enough to garner any type of warning. Graphic violence and sexual content in movies depict these acts with real life people. Only within the past decade or so, have video games brought depictions as strong as movies.
As games grow in popularity, this stuff will gain steam. Games are no longer just played by nerds. They are certainly no longer underground. As Wii, Kinect, Move and all of the like draw new types of people to gaming, new types of people realize that games have as much impact as movies and maybe more considering that video games are an interactive experience.
The thing is, gamers ask for more immersion, more realism and game companies want more gamers, more diversity among consumers, and we are going to have to deal with the fact that some people are not ok with everything that other people are and if we can't get along, and if we as gamers can't deal with the compromise that comes with that, this industry will end up choking itself.
I think it's also only a matter of time before this is not a state to state law and falls under a federal set of rules.

I think if it's gonna happen it should be that way.
The law is worded in a way that can be interpreted more than one way, depending on who reads it.
The article I posted covers that. I may think it's ok to kill zombies in a game but someone else may get offended and try to sue over this law. What would be right? And if it goes state to state and Maine allows zombies, but California and Nebraska don't allow them, what then? If enough states call it bad, does it still make it into the game?
I like the idea, after reading more about it, but it needs to be universal.

+edit+ Actually I gave it a second thought and decided to remove my argument because I don't have the strength or desire to pursue it further. I agree and disagree with some of what has been said but I was mainly just playing devil's advocate for no real reason.
I do still have to mention that Melissa gets bonus points for calling out Conan for rescuing topless maidens and not all the dismemberment and decapitations. You must be an American mother, madam.
