a 4 year old in mensa? that's outrageous. :baffled:

says she has an IQ of 159. i had an IQ of 118 at age 15, but she completely kills me and any expectation of a 4 year old. shit, she can practically talk quantum physics. D:

Your IQ is a measure of your potential, academically, and really doesn't change over time. If your IQ is 160 at 4, it'll be around that at any age. If you tested 118 at age 15, you'd have tested within a few points at 4 or 6 or any age. Differences would be more from fluctuations in your emotions and testing environment than your intelligence changing.

IQ used to be based on a ratio of what you do know compared to what you are "supposed" to know at a given age. Now it is done based on standard deviations.

However an IQ of 159 in a four year old doesn't mean she is smarter than an 11 year old who scores a 143 (my score). It is based on age to an extent. It may not change a LOT but it can change. Usually the only "big" changes happen when someone either achieves some sort of mental "breakthrough" or should someone somehow lose a lot of function (accidents and the like).

So to an extent it is relative. When she's as old as I am most likely she'll be more intelligent than I am, but right now I could smoke her

Sorry if what I said came out wrong, that was basically what I was trying to say. I just mean it isn't a huge oddity that she scored 159 at 4, since the test was tailored for toddlers. Everyone who scores in the genius level as an adult would have scored in the genius level as a child.

I have had my IQ tested several times in my life, starting when I was 4, so my parents could start me in Kindergarten early, and it's never been below 154 or above 156. It was cool when I could brag about it when I was younger (yeah, it made me a ton of friends, as you can imagine /sarcasm), but it's useless now, and has been since I realized I'm lazy.

IQ doesn't measure emotional intelligence, drive or common sense, which are more important to success than academic intelligence. I didn't develop either of those for 20 years after I learned to read. :sorry:

/rant

Sorry, IQ testing little kids is a pet peeve of mine. It serves no purpose besides bragging rights for the parents... Like they had so much to do with it. :vomit:

Lol, my bad too, I meant mine to simply agree and expound upon what you said!

You are very right about it not measuring drive or common sense. The other "rant" many sociologists have about IQ tests is they only evaluate what we see as important in our society: math, reading, science, etc. It doesn't take into account people's natural affinity for other skills, such as hand-eye coordination, common sense, and many many other abilities. It only measures "book smarts."

Plus I've known plenty of very smart people that don't have a lick of common sense. I figure I'm smart enough without being oblivious to life!

Lol no kidding. The smartest guy I know couldn't find his way out of a paper bag if one end was closed, but he feels the only thing that's important is what degree you have. I honestly don't think I'm as smart as my number claims, simply because I test really well. I have no doubt you're more intelligent than I am, Mini... I think of myself more as a savant. ;)

I think of myself more as a savant. ;)

Ok, what about the guy that has an extreme case of dyslexia so bad that he can't read a stop sign. This same person (yes, I do know this guy) can take apart ANY automotive transmission and put it all back together again into a like-new condition. Classic or brand new - doesn't matter. I think he can do it with a blind fold over his eyes.

The test you speak of won't give him the time of day and will tend to treat him as if he was mentally handicapped. Your test is flawed. :baffled:

This is a perfect example of why these tests aren't that great. You are right, he probably would score in the very low IQ, yet he's obviously a very mechanically inclined person -probably would score extremely high in the field if they found some way to measure automotive skills.

In other cultures where reading and writing aren't important at all, IQ tests are 100% garbage. I mean who cares if you can read and write if you can't survive because you don't know how to hunt/gather food.
