PLEASE let old instruments work on new consoles. The game will fail otherwise.

Highly unlikely that they will. 360 controllers don't work on the One, so why would the instruments? Also, they milked the shit out of the music game cow before, and I don't see them changing and not trying to squeeze every dollar they can out of people. They might let you import your songs that you've bought previously, but I don't think they're that far yet. That being said, I'll probably get it just because most of the games out there now aren't very much fun to me.

(Most) Music will transfer.
Also
Harmonix is in active discussions with Sony and Microsoft, with the hopes of getting permission to create sold-separately adapters that would plug into your console and enable your last-gen instruments to work.
So they'll still be getting the $, people will just feel like they're saving something.
If the drums also happen to be compatible, even better, because I kept my kit and backup pieces all this time just in case.
Dan! Beaver! We shall JAM, sons!

Exactly, I'd much rather spend $50 on an adapter than $200 on 2 guitars and a drum kit, especially since I still have my old ones and if they are not made to be compatible, the will be worthless from that point on.
