Finally got my 1K on this last night after hunting down all the cars. That was a real pain in the ass. There's actually a good guide for the Auto Fanatic achievement, if anyone else is having trouble on x360a:

I started collecting the gold film cans today. I like how they're all named for
real films from that era. I've actually seen a few of them.

So I finally finished the story last night and wasn't as disappointed as I thought I would be. Yeah, it was a bit of a bummer but I found it a very fitting ending to the overall story and the just the type of ending I've come to expect from a Rockstar game.
Spoiler: Click here to toggle spoilerDespite how I thought Cole was a bit of a dick from his WWII flashbacks to cheating on his wife, he was a helluva cop and I thought he vindicated himself in the end putting Elsa and Jack's safety ahead of his own. He died a true hero. It did kinda suck how all the assholes involved in the conspiracy ended up getting away with it. I was really hoping to see Roy Earl get what he had coming. Maybe we will get just that in a future DLC. *crossing fingers*
Overall, I give it a 8.5/10. The only real issue I had was with the pacing of the story. It felt like they crammed the whole corruption/conspiracy storyline onto the third disc although I did like how they let you play as Jack during the last three "cases". The Homicide desk was by far the best section of the game. I thought it was really neat getting to drive around an LA before it was marred by freeways but I felt they could've done more with the whole open world format.

I felt the same way when I finished the game.
There were a few times I was really bothered by how the inspecting the different evidence moved. Half the time it would zoom in for a split second then stop and I couldn't get that piece of evidence no matter how I looked at it or what I did. I still ended up getting 95% of all evidence, though.
I was also bothered by all the people you chase being track stars, that was pretty stupid. Also bothered by Phelps movements while walking or tailing someone. Half the time he would walk into a wall and then not be able to move at all!
The cars also pissed me off. They were so slow and gay. No point in driving anywhere in the game. Even the fastest car was like driving a Yaris. There's no way I'll be getting the drive 194.7 miles achievement since I let my partner drive EVERYWHERE.
Overall I think I'd give this a 7/10. It was fun, but I wouldn't buy any of the DLC. There's no replay value to me.
I just got the achievement for 5 stars on every case as well. Here's the guide I used if anyone is interested. I only had to go back and replay 3 cases after finishing the game since I ran over a pedestrian or something stupid to lower my rating to 4 stars. I think the only thing I'm going to do is finish up the 8 side missions and that will put me at over 800 gamerscore for the game.
And another thing, fuck all these discs. These assholes couldn't put all the street crimes on one fucking disc or make them all available when you finish the game? It's so fucking stupid you have to sit around and wait for night for half the crimes since night only lasts about 10 minutes of game time and fucking daytime is 10 hours... Really shows that dev's don't really think things out. Piece of shit.

I've only played The Naked City case yet but I thought it was a fun case. I thought the Rockstar pass was a pretty good deal. I agree about the replay value though for those of you who followed a guide your first time through. I got the 95% of all clues but I didn't 5 star every case so I'll be getting some replay value. I did that on purpose. Plus playing through it again with the DLC cases wil make it last a little longer.
I felt they could've offered different outcomes to cases depending on who you charged or if you blew an interrogation instead of just getting your ass chewed by the Captain and ending the case anyway. I thought they made it a little too linear, especially when you get to the third disc. I felt it would've made the game so much better if they had more than one ending as well, offering different ways to play the game. They could've given us the choice to play the good cop or bad cop.
I didn't realize that they split up the street crimes as well. Are you sure you have to wait until night or is that just for certain street crimes. I remember there being shitload during daylight. I only have like 11 to go. I still have 20-25 cars to drive but I already found all the gold films. The Rockstar Social Club map was really handy when collecting them all. I never thought I'd find myself saying this but I thought some form of co-op may have been fun. Working cases together as partners would've been kinda neat.

I'm getting so sick of this game so fucking quick. I'm so glad I'm almost done with it. Half the landmarks won't even fucking unlock when I drive by, walk up to, or look at.
It would seem that some of the landmarks are disc specific as well. I had to go through all 3 discs before the landmark unlocked on the last disc I tried.
And yes, the cases are time specific. Once you finish all the day, quit out to main menu, reload free roam and it will be night and there will be the remaining crimes you need.

well if you guys read the newspapers the story leading up to the 3rd disc was in each of the newspapers, AND the cases you were solving throughout the game. and if you mess up you do have to go around a different way of getting intel. my friend had to tail a guy because he asked the wrong questions whereas i just got the information.

The landmarks are not disc specific, you have to sometimes drive all around it to get it to pop, perhaps you have to be on a certain street, but I just looked it up and the landmarks aren't disc specific.

I couldn't get the storage one to pop up on the map on disc 2 or 3 whether I drove around it or walked up to the building and all around it. Had to use disc 1 and it popped immediately.
Currently have my controller rubberbanded for the 194.7 mile achievement.

I actually really enjoyed the cars in LA Noire, but I did not like how the other cars on the road drove like they were auditioning for a role in Grindhouses Death Proof.
They more often than not would seriously hinder you getting from point A to point B without smashing some steel or hopping a few curbs, there were times that they seemed to be moving blockades whose sole purpose is to get you to hit them.
The only issue I had with the game was that sometimes street crimes would pop up about as far away as possible from the location you're in, though thats prolly the reason I popped the driving achievement without using the rubberband trick (which worked wonderously for the "Dark Rider" achievement in Darksiders).

I had zero problems when getting all the landmarks and I finished them while on the third disc even with having a few to get way on the south side where you start the game.
