I don't know what exactly AJ did but so far I am up to Ch 5 on Legendary solo.
Basically you just have to take it really slow and grab whatever weapons are handy to kill stuff. The main thing that makes 4 easier than past ones to me is that the Elites don't seem as aggressive.

The enemies take double damage when 2 or more people are in a game. Play solo, it will feel like normal difficulty.
