Justice League War - 9/10
Wolf of Wall Street 10/10
Silent Hill 2 5.5/10
I'm confused as to why they decided to combine SH 1 and 3 into one concurrent plot-line. The first movie was sufficient and I found it's so called sequel quite unnecessary.
A beautiful lady that i am talking to said this was her favorite movie growing up, so i had to pull it out of the dvd vault n give it another run.
Segal with a beard superb
Everything is awesome! Great storyline. A few cool cameos. Kids loved it. Looking forward to
playing the game.
Damn I'm not supposed to talk about it Haha
Quote by Mouth 420:
I love that movie.
Blood Work (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – I’m a sucker for these cat and mouse type of thrillers, and this is a competently acted and directed one, with strong performances from Jeff Daniels and Clint Eastwood. It’s only major flaw is the fact that it’s a bit clichéd, and though it was well done, the killer was pretty obvious fairly early on. As long as you’re not expecting Insomnia or Seven, this a good watch. In summation: a solid, well done thriller, but not one that injects anything new to the genre.
7/10
Lock Up (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – Probably not one of Stallone’s more popular films, or at least I had never heard about it until a few weeks ago. It seems like a decent concept, and though it is a bit predictable, it’s not bad. I think if you subbed in someone other than Stallone, and it would probably suffer a great deal. I didn’t use to think of him as a talented actor, but he’s been growing on me lately. In summation: a watchable film for Stallone fans, but probably not for the average movie watcher.
5.5/10
Last Action Hero (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – I really think this could have been pretty good, but as it stands, I don’t see it as anything more than a poorly developed movie about a good idea. I think parody/satirical films can work, but unfortunately they go to such lengths to imitate those films, they end up making a film that is shallower than the films they’re trying so hard to dig at. Sure, this has humorous little nods, but it could have been so much better. In summation: a good director, strong lead man, and some nice little nods can’t save this from the trash heap; fans of action films will find some redeeming qualities in an otherwise mediocre film.
5/10
The Fly (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – It’s been on my radar for a while, as I like the cast and Cronenberg’s a good director. Jeff Goldblum starts as the brilliant, but eccentric genius; a role he’s perfect for. For a film with this kind of his age, the makeup and special effects work they did with the creature are excellent, definitely up there with Carpenter’s remake of The Thing. It plays out more like a tragedy than a horror film, as Goldblum begins to realize he’s slowly losing control with his internal struggle against the fly-half of his genetic splicing accident. In summation: Jeff Goldblum turns in an excellent performance in this dark, disturbing film about the horrors of scientific experiments gone wrong.
6.5/10
A Nightmare on Elm Street (Blu-ray, 2nd viewing) – I’ve generally enjoyed Platinum Dune’s remakes, and though this isn’t one of my favorites, it’s an above average slasher. Jackie Earle Haley makes for a good Freddy, and I think the actors portraying the teens are better than what you’d normally find in this sort of movie. Still, there’s not much in the way of character development, and the whole thing feels a little rushed. There’s virtually no build up in the beginning, people start getting wacked very early on. In summation: a flawed, but reasonably well done remake of one of the icons in horror.
6/10
Don Jon (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – I think JGL is turning into one of the best young actors today, and with this, he proves himself to be a competent director, too. It’s pretty vulgar, but there’s enough comedy and romance here to appeal to a multitude of interests. The supporting cast all performs well, too. Fans of not-so gooey romantic comedies will find something to enjoy here, I think. In summation: although a bit predictable, JGL’s directorial debut proves to be a worthy watch, and hopefully a precursor to other good things.
6/10
House of Wax (Blu-ray, 3rd viewing) – It doesn’t hold up that well with subsequent viewings, but I see it as an above average teen slasher. As was the case with ANoEM, I think they selected some actors with at least a little talent, so that’s a big plus for movies like this. The whole movie has a certain creep factor that’s pretty neat, though it does dissipate quite a bit with repeat viewings. There’s nothing here that greatly advanced the slasher genre, but it pads the genre with a solid outing. In summation: a fairly unique setup and set of surroundings make what could be a fairly wrote slasher into an above average entry in a bloated genre.
