The Worlds End - 7/10 - Not really the same quality as Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz. Simon Pegg is the only one who seemed to shine.
Watched some movies I’ve owned for 4-6 months this week, just clearing the backlog a bit. Nothing too memorable, but nothing too bad, either.
Lost in Space (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – I think it’s fared better than the majority of older sci-fi movies that rely heavily on CGI, but I don’t believe it was a great movie to begin with. It follows the same old tired, predictable clichés we’ve come to expect. It does feature some decent names, with Hurt and Oldman being the top billed, with the latter turning in another solid performance as a villain. Overall, you can do a lot worse as far as older sci-fi movies go, but also a lot better.
5.5/10
Once Upon a Time in the West (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – This has been in the backlog for a while, mostly because of how long it is, 166 minutes. I was glad I watched it though, as it’s a really solid film; I can definitely see why it’s received so much praise. It’s a classic western through and through, featuring some very interesting characters, and dialogue that will remind you of Tarantino. Some of the scenes are a little drawn out, and though it manages the running time well, it still felt a little long. If you liked Sergio Leone’s Dollars trilogy, definitely give this a go.
7/10
Renaissance (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – Has a very unique and interesting visual style, sort of like a mix between an animated movie and Sin City. The story is a pretty typical corporate espionage sort of deal, very similar to Blade Runner. All in all, its fun to watch, and the story is compelling enough to be more than just eye candy. If you’re looking for something a little different, it should satisfy in that regard.
6/10
Monster House (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – Not the kind of movie I’m normally into, but Zemeckis had a hand in it, and I really like his animated features. This isn’t as sharp as Beowulf, but the animation is solid; you can definitely tell who the actors portraying the characters are. It’s not one of the best animated features, but even as an adult, I thought it was decent. If you have kids, this would be a real fun one to watch with them.
5.5/10
A Christmas Carol (Blu-ray, 1st viewing) – Really like the original story and Zemeckis, so I knew I’d eventually get around to seeing it. Overall, it stays very true to the source material, and it strikes a fine balance between the philosophy of the story and some lighthearted fun. It’s a good entry, but not as solid as Beowulf in terms of visuals and animation.
6.5/10
G.I. Joe: The Movie (Blu-ray, 2nd viewing) – May have seen this more than once as a youngster, but I’m honestly not sure. I was obsessed with G.I. Joes when I was younger; owned several hundred of the figurines, watched the cartoons every time they aired, etc. I never enjoyed the movie as much as the series, but it’s still decent. It definitely brings back some nostalgia. It feels kind of like they mashed together a couple of episodes, as some of the pieces don’t really fit well into the whole story. It’s a decent watch, but not something I’m likely to revisit soon.
5.5/10
I thought it was entertaining. Johnny Depp had some funny quirky moments, especially at the "HiYo Silver Away" part at the end. But, I can see why many did not like the movie. I didnt have any expectations going into it so I really enjoyed it.
Going to be watching the new Riddick tonight after work when the kids get to bed though.
Quote by Mouth 420:
I know I loved the originals and even the "remake" but this wasn't to great haha.
To me it's Will's best movie. 9/10
Anchorman 2 - This was a pretty great addition to the series and I wish for more! Liked
How they had so many great actors in the news fight this time. Best part of the movie
Frozen - Saw this tonight with my girlfriend. We did enjoy it and it will be a great movie for the kids for Christmas or just the family in general. It did seem at first it would last forever but before I knew it. It was over and it was a good movie and entertained me the whole way through. I would say it's an 7.5/10
