Hotel Transylvania 7/10 A good family night movie.
Alone:
Men in Black 9/10 great movie in my opinion.
6/10
Black Swan – a very disturbing, but outstanding film. Portman turns in a career-defining performance, and the supporting cast is great. I’ve owned this since the day it was released on home media, so I’m kicking myself for waiting so long. Darren Arnofksy’s best, in my opinion.
8/10
Hard Candy – I really, really wanted to like it, as I’m a fan of both Ellen Page and Patrick Wilson. It was definitely original, but didn’t do much for me. If a movie is going to try and be that disturbing and shocking, then it needs to commit to that. When it had the chance to crank the intensity to 11, it would back off, and I’m not referring to just the nut scene.
5/10
Zodiac – Another one of Fincher’s better films. Solid throughout, and keeps the 157 minute runtime from ever getting too boring. As with most movies that are based on reality, we know how it ends, so it’s as compelling as it can be.
7/10
Prince of Persia – I’m at a loss as to why this caught so much flack. It’s definitely a flawed movie, but I’d put it maybe a notch below the adored PotC series. I think it would’ve been better suited as a trilogy, having this installment end shortly before the flight from Alamut. I’m going to go out on a limb and say that the book is probably closed, though. It’s a shame because they definitely had the talent to turn it into a series like PotC. If you go in expecting a good summer popcorn flick, you won’t be disappointed.
7/10
Here Comes the Boom – I’ve never been in Kevin James’s corner, but this was a bad movie. It’s not very good as a comedy, and if you’re looking for an inspirational sports film, you’ll also need to look elsewhere. There are a couple of moderately funny scenes when he’s in the ring, but even they’re few and far between.
4/10
Hotel Transylvania – could have been a lot better had they focused on the classical monsters more. It’s cute and endearing most of the time, but pretty forgettable in the end. 5/10
Constantine – I don’t have a history with the comic, so I can’t comment on how closely it follows the source material, but I did think it was a good movie. Keanu is his normal emotionless self, but Stormare adds his unnerving brilliance at the end. This was the first movie I’ve watched on blu-ray with my new 47” T.V, so I was very impressed by the film’s visuals. I had seen a few blus on my 32” before I replaced it, but they were not on par with this release. Some might find that it’s a little lacking on substance, but it’s still a lot of fun.
7/10
The Raven – did a great job of capturing the time period and the supporting cast was good. I mention the supporting cast because I thought the main actor – John Cusack – was awful. I can’t imagine playing Poe would be an easy role, but he was crap. Most of the scenes were of him just running around screaming nonsense. The killer’s well hidden, and some of the kills are creative and cool. If you’re a fan of Poe’s work, it gets a definite recommendation.

Very long boring movie weekend...
Skyfall 9/10 only because I like Daniel Craig as James Bond
