I only like Even Flow and I Am Mine, I dunno why I clicked yes. But they aren't grunge, I love grunge and I fail to see the resemblance. They sound too pop-rock for me.

So far all I see is people find one or two songs that make them good. I completely agree with that. They have a couple of songs that I find my foot tapping to, but they are completely overrated and over played. Oh well. I guess I have to just go back to listening to my music and cry gently....

Ah the 90's, where Diddy was still Puff Daddy and ripping off Zepplin riffs, MTV actually played music and TRL was simply Total Request, and Manson spring-boarded off the success of being marked as the Antichrist. Those were the days... /nostalgia

lol I didn't pick yes because it wasn't yes it was YES!!!!! Which is like... if you asked if I liked Muse or Paramore, that would be my answer, but not Pearl Jam. Pearl Jam is more of a... mehhh I guess so...
Be that as it may, they are one of the 2 biggest grunge bands ever, and one of the pioneers of the grunge rock genre. Seriously, when I was younger than you, Pearl Jam and Nirvana brought about the mainstream wear of flannel shirts, dirty jeans and work boots by teenagers- boys and girls alike. Their commercial success was groundbreaking for the genre. To say Pearl Jam's not grunge rock is a gross misstatement.
I just don't hear grunge when I listen to them. Alice In Chains, who doesn't even consider themselves grunge, are more grunge than Pearl Jam. Looking at them you'd assume they're a grunge band but listening to them you'd think they were just your run of the mill alternative band.

The Melvins did it way earlier, and getting yuppies to buy flannel doesn't qualify as musical stylization. He was just saying he didn't hear the grunge in it, and I agree.
You put Pearl Jam next to early Soundgarden or even the almighty Nirvana and they sound over-produced, with ham-fisted musicality and vocals way too far in front of the mix--all of which embodies the antithesis of what the bands were trying to do.
It's sort of like how some suits heard what Trent Reznor was doing and put a big sticker that said "INDUSTRIAL" on every media appearance Nine Inch Nails did despite his insistence otherwise--suddenly you have people arguing over whether NIN is industrial or not when they could be listening to actual industrial music or whatever else they enjoy.

I am not a huge Pearl Jam fan. I do however give them credit as being an early influence in my musical career. Dave Abruzzese is a very good drummer, and I emulated him when I was learning the drumming ropes.
I was telling Raine that there was a time when PJ was the only cassette that I had in my collection that was current. I had every Led Zeppelin tape and some other classic rock and I had TEN.
The thing with PJ, is that I feel they got progressively worse with every release. Eddie Vedder was always a weird cat, but he got flakier, and I can't listen to him any longer.
When I hear Pearl Jam, I feel a little bit of nostalgia, but that's all they invoke for me. Now Alice in Chains... THAT'S a band that I still love to listen to!

Alice rocked. Pearl jam was the one hit wonders who had a few other ok songs. Black was my favorite, but anything after 10 was pure radio garbage.
