I dont think a "real marriage" consists of having an outlandish wedding ceremony or a ring. I think it is the joining of two people who are in love. Yes, i understand that eventually that love may run out. But then again what lasts forever?

I don't truly understand why or how the actual "wedding ceremony" came into play. If two people love each other why should they get married. I'm assuming that way back in the day two people could be together and not have to marry each other just to prove something, whether it be to others or in the eyes of god. I don't think that little piece of paper that sais you are married really means anything...its just a piece of paper. If you truly love each other in the first place you should not need a little piece of paper telling you that.

I think that people stop caring about how they look in front of their wife/husband in their later years. Because by then your spouse has seen u in every way possible. Whether it be sick or in a dress attending a party. When two people first start dating I highly doubt that they show their true self, they show the other person what they want them to see. But then again that would depend on that person, not everyone is the same.

Even though there is only a 50% possibility of making it last i do think it is worthwhile. When you enter a divorce yes you get depressed, but you have to move on. You may be be a different person at the end of it but change is not always bad. There is more than a 50% chance you are going to humiliate yourself every day. Life is full of risks, and life is about taking chances. It is better to try something before you finally decide whether you want to do it again or not.

So yes I do think that 50% really is worth the risk. But that is assuming I ever find the right woman for me....

You will know deep down in your heart if marriage is the proper step. Sometimes when two people meet they are destined to be together.. these are the couples who never bicker and argue and get along like happy clams. For these people who get married I applaud them. I had once been engaged to a woman that I shouldn't have many years ago... it was just a wrong fit - and deep down in my heart I knew it. Look into your own feelings and you will know the answer, if you are on the plateau of trying to decide then your answer is probably (a sad) no.

Marriage is something that is held sacred..to religious people, or non-religious people ( just because it’s not sacred to you doesn’t mean it isn’t to other people) and it is not something to be entered into lightly. Marriage takes hard work, a lot of hard work, determination, and discipline. I think the reason a lot of marriages do not work is because people go into marriage with the thought of “well if it doesn’t work we can always get a divorce”. Ask anyone who has been married for more than 10 years and they will say the same thing.

I’m a Christian dude, and I don’t care how much flaming I get for being one and I think that even though marriage is nothing more than a piece of paper and a ring, it says something about how committed you are to the other person. I did not say that those who aren’t married are not equally committed, I was just saying. They’re really is no better or worse reason to get married, from a non-religious perspective.

I got married because I love my wife to death. I want to grow old and grey with her and irritate the fork out of her when I get old and crazy, haha. We have each other’s back through thick and thin, rich or poor, sickness and in health. Marriage to me is a sacred and holy union between two people that love each other and would go to the ends of the earth for them. There are times when she annoyes the hell out of me, or pisses me off….but I do the same to her. Thats just what comes with the territory of being married, you have to take the good with the bad.

If you want to get married, do it. I know a lot of successful marriages out there, just because it hasn’t worked out for some, does NOT mean it won’t work out for you. You are your own person, ….or…people, lol. I’m not going to say “get married or burn in hell” because im a Christian but its up to you and what you would feel comfortable doing….But my opinion is that marriage, if done right…lol….IS WORTH IT!

Agreed :)

Quote by Lord Aldemar:

However, I believe in marriage and all that it entails. Divorce is the result of a broken vow, more often than not. A broken vow that is often read as "For Better or Worse". Life has turbulent times, as does anything on the planet. All you need to do is stick it out and communicate.

This is what I was TRYING to say too...lol

I think at least some marriages fail, because too many people take the quick and easy way... No I DIDN'T say divorce was PAIN FREE, but it's a lot easier to pay a fee, and walk away from a mess sometime, than put in the time and effort that may be required to save a marriage. I think we've laid a foundation together, that would be worth the time and effort to work through any problems we may ever encounter in our lifetimes.

For me, she's not just my wife, she's my best friend as well. And she's the same with me. Maybe that's the difference for us.

Pretty much summed up what I was trying to say, and im quoting your whole schpeel but i didnt want to put the whole thing in quotations...im not the best one with putting thoughts to paper (or screen in this case)

This part, with you saying people take the quick and easy way out is something i was trying to say when people go into marriage with the mindset of "oh if it dont work we can get divorced"

anyway...im done, lol

all i can say is this...
i never wanted to get married to anyone when i was younger, and then i met jen.
i dunno. she's everything i've ever wanted. she's my best friend.
i couldn't imagine my life without her, and if anything happened to her i'd die.

i don't know how other people feel, but for me, i met the right person and just wanted to do it. i can't give statistics or benefits. seriously, why would you even THINK about that if you're truly in love with someone? i love her more and more every day. i wanted to marry her, i did, and i've never regretted it. obviously if i ever thought "god... i hope i never lose my house or have to pay child support" i probably would have never gotten married. i didn't feel that way though. i knew and understood our love for eachother.

i guess i'm going in circles lol.
anyway, when you meet the right person, i think you'll just want to.
