I liked Legend of Dragoon as well....a little generic but it really was a good RPG

Fallout 3 and Oblivion are RPGs. First off, "360 fanboys" don't classify these games as RPGs, xbox list them as RPGs. Go to xbox.com and look it up. Also, in these games, you create a character, a character class with custom traits, and you level up. Where as something like zelda, you just fall in to what nintendo whats you to do. Also, you control the out come of mission that affects the story line. So you can't call Oblivion or fallout 3 action games with RPgs elements. There are straight RPGs.

hi!and actually, you kinda can call them action games w/ rpg elements. i havent played too many rpg games, but i know lady evol/melissa has. just go back to the ps2 and play some of the JRPG games. those are like, TRUE rpgs. altho i can see how fallout 3 is an RPG game, i can see where one could call it an action game w/ rpg elements. because technically, rpg means ROLE PLAYING GAME, or, a GAME where you PLAY a ROLE. well technically, you PLAY a ROLE of a character in every game...so if you use a very loose definition of RPG, going ONLY by the title, then games like [PROTOTYPE], Halo 3, Gears of War 1/2, and almost EVERY game could be considered and rpg...
and btw, just cause ms/xbox.com says its an rpg, doesnt mean its an rpg...

I wouldn't call either of them the best ever, but 2 RPGs that I really, thoroughly enjoy are the original Final Fantasy and Super Mario RPG Legend of the Seven Stars.
FF7 really is neato but after the 4th time beating it, breeding gold chocobos and slaughtering the extra Weapons, I really got burnt out.
KOTOR1 and 2 were both nifty but I think Mass Effect is the most interesting development in terms of modern RPG's.
I also really enjoyed all the Elder Scrolls I played (all but the first one) and I think it blows that the Ultima series outshone them most of the time because I feel like Ultima was never half as great as its writers thought it was.
BTW folks, I already had this argument with Lady Evol a long time ago. You're wasting your time, she's a die-hard JRPG fangirl ^^

ya know meta, i was watching some vids on mass effect the other day. they looked pretty good. and, minus the wierd traveling thing, the actual in-game gameplay kinda reminded me of gow2, how its like all in TPS. is it similar? different? or what? cause it looked good, but i dont wanna just go out and buy it and end up hating it...

It actually is like GoW in some ways. You aim directly, first-person style but being able to see your character in third-person. You can grab cover and all that. It's much slower than GoW, though, both in pacing and the fact that once heavy spell effects start going off the framerate dips.
Despite the actiony shooting of the combat, the game itself is very story-heavy and "talky" so if you don't give a damn about branching conversations, don't bother with it. Plus, after the initial sampling of action, it takes a long time to get out of the starting area and into the juicy meat.
