Well, I have sort of argued with her on this issue before, but the thing is, I mostly agree with her. So do a lot of others.

Personally, I don't like the idea of some outside entity making decisions for me, but at the same time, I don't see any reason NOT to keep shit out of kids' hands, and saying it has to do with preventing them to being exposed to "certain ideas" is fucking retarded.

This has nothing to do with stifling ideas or expression and everything to do with not letting non-parented kids sit around with insanely violent interactive entertainment and have their little minds desensitized.

I also agree that BOTH sides of this case have handled it poorly, and at this point I am kind of fed up with the whole thing, which was why I didn't bother to weigh in until now.

To me, it is as simple as what she said earlier: I wouldn't want my kid of say 11 years old to be able to go behind my back and lay $60 on a counter and buy an M rated game with graphic violence. If it takes a shitty federal mandate to do that, then oh well, it becomes a necessary evil at that point.

I'm not saying I don't agree with her or not. I'm 25 and my child is far from old enough for me to have to worry about this issue yet. all i am simply saying is that everyone who came on here with a view different from Melissa's or not in keeping with what she believes in has had their opinion get punched in the face and that is pretty much the end of it. i think it is hilarious!

If i had to weigh in on this issue though, being not very informed as i never really looked into it because I will parent how i damn well chose regardless of how the local gamestop operates is, from what I have heard that both sides were pretty misinformed themselves. It sounds like neither side of the bill or whatever's party really knew what they were talking about and just wanted either publicity or to make their mark on what is quickly becoming a HUGE industry.

It pretty much goes without saying that as the parent of the same children as Melissa, I agree with her totally.

We are NOT saying don't make M rated games, we just like the idea of the peace of mind that comes along with having a little help when we inevitably aren't able to be with our children.

In this day and age where every media flows so freely, parents' jobs as a moral mediator has increased in difficulty tenfold from just a generation ago. I see no harm in setting up a roadblock of sorts to help us keep up with what goes on. Without a little help it would be like trying to play a one on one basketball game against 10 people. Even the best and most vigilant parents can be overwhelmed by the world.

I don't want to come off as saying that I want to shield our kids from everything, I just want a chance to catch up with them and be able to make the decisions as to what they are shielded from.
