The people Microsoft have right now are bringing casual gamers into the fold. Any plans of a "hardcore" experience left with Peter Moore. The Xbox 360 has become an entertainment system. Nice article Kat :D

I think we're using the word "casual" differently, Reep. I'm talking about people who can take it or leave it- Facebook gamers. A $500 price tag alone will weed those out, I think.

Mudskipper- (my phone autocorrected it and I like it this way)- I totally agree. Look at GOD. Total rip off, but people keep paying! Consumers somehow forget that not buying something is worse for companies than ripping the shit out of them on an Internet forum. Vote with your wallet! :p

Yeah, I think Nintendo is finding out what happens when you try to embrace the casual market. They are not the people that care if a shiny new system is coming out if the one they got is meeting their needs. Short of MS just shutting down the 360 servers, they have embraced and expanded on the same type of consumer that is perfectly happy with what they have. I currently think that Sony understands this better than MS at this point having gone through a consumer backlash once already. MS might just have to learn the hard way!!!

Myself I see this not really making a difference in the long run. I'm willing to bet a good amount of people who say they won't purchase the console will still go out and buy it once released.

Lol, agreed Mudskipper (I like this too for some reason).

As I've said before though, I will not be an immediate adopter if they go this route or the one time code for new games route. I am assuming that I won't be broke and could actually afford it when it comes out though.

Will I pick it up eventually? Yep. I'm a sucker, I tend to buy almost every new system (zero interest in the Wii U though). However I will buy a PS4 sooner depending on how this plays out. As Evil mentioned, I have an enormous backlog of games to work on. Unless they decide that the next gen console gets like a base 2000 Gamerscore, I'll be perfectly content to work on what I already have.

I'm way more interested in catching up on Jrpgs through ps3 than I am in getting a new console when they launch. But yeah I'm sure i'll end up with all of them at some point as well.

Wouldn't an "Always On" Internet console make the RROD occur more often?

Microsoft likely learned their lesson from the Xenon, Opus, Zephyr and Falcon phats. Most likely the next Xbox will look a lot less like a console and a lot more like a PC tower. The cooling system will be more like a PC gaming rig as well.

There was discussion of watercooling the 360 in early design, but it just wasn't cost effective, but I wouldn't be surprised if that discussion was revisited when design started on this one. Unfortunately, I doubt the cost concern has changed much since 2003.

Personally, I can't wait to get one to tear it apart! :D

I do not look forward to the next gen Xbox. This always on crap is just plain stupid. I'll probably just upgrade my computer or build a new one to play the next gen games instead of buying a console.

Wasn't very happy when I read about Disney closing down LucasArts. My favorite PC games were LucasArts games. One good thing about it is that Raven released the gaming code for Jedi Academy and Jedi Outcast to the fans once LucasArts was shut down.

Big shocker... He did no favors to ms.

As an update to anyone interested in new Xbox rumors- here's the latest from. Verge regarding reports that the new Xbox will run through your cable box:

The functionality will work by taking a cable box signal and passing it through to the Xbox via HDMI, allowing Microsoft's console to overlay a UI and features on top of an existing TV channel or set-top box. We're told that this is a key part of the next-generation Xbox and that it will go a step further than Google's TV implementation thanks to Microsoft's partnerships with content providers. Extended support for various cable services will be rolled out gradually, but the basic functionality will be available at launch.

Coupled with this TV functionality, Microsoft's next-generation Kinect sensor will also play a role in the company's TV focus. The Verge has learned that the next Kinect will detect multiple people simultaneously, including the ability to detect eye movement to pause content when a viewer turns their head away from a TV. Microsoft is said to be using these capabilities as part of its UI and features for its TV plans.

I don't care about any of these things!!! I just want moar Elder Scrolls games!!
