I had to keep pushing the side where the switch was down on the lid until I heard a click. It was a hand-me-down washer from my mom. She said that when people would come over to do their laundry they'd slam the lid down and messed it up.
When I tried taking the old switch off it fell into pieces. I guess it was time for a replacement. The washing machine was only 3 years old, but people were slamming the lid down on it. It's not that hard to replace the switch, but putting it all back together is a bitch.
When you do have to fix it, don't have a repair man to come in a do it because it would be a huge waste of money. They'd probably charge you $100 to do something that you can do yourself much cheaper. Especially with Youtube videos that make it so someone like me, who has 0 experience working on things like that, is able to do it.
