Gotta say Lloyd Irving from Tales of Symphonia
Besides from using two swords have and having some of my favorite attacks in the serires he had by far the best dialog routinly being called an idealist in a world where the shit just keeps hitting the fan.
Why is he my favorite? Well over the course of the game he loses his mother for a powerfull EX stone which give him increadible powers, accidently destroys his hometown, discovers who his real father his and has an great emotional cut scene at the end of the game with him, thinks that the girl he loves has to be sacraficed to save the world but never gives up on saving her and is always a glass half full type of guy.
After 4 playthroughs and a god awful sequel ToS is still my favorite non-Mario games for the Gamecube and it's got one of the best title characters I've ever played as.
