Mine is Alex from Lunar Silver Star the reason is he starts out as a kid with nothing and finishes a Hero. Plus I own every iteration of the Lunar games from the original PS1 to the PSP, it was the first RPG that hooked me.

I would have to say my favorite would have to be Link as well. Personally I loved all the games and I know most got a bad rap but besides Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess, my favorite is Majora's Mask. Lot of people hated it but I spent a lot of time after school playing that game.

I have to say, some of the first choices in my head have already been posted. Many of the great RPGs of my childhood are already listed. Legend of Zelda, Chrono Trigger, Legend of Legaia, Final Fantasy VII, and yes Mini, even Mario, from Mario RPG, lol.
Even though I was very fond of all of these, I chose another game I spent countless hours on as a younger teen.

Here are the characters, my favorite was the Hero/Boy, I always named them my name, to further link myself to the story, but in the original Japenese version, he was Randi.
And an actual gameplay shot, so all the young kids can laugh at our 8 and 16 bit glory days:

BEST RPG EVER! I actually own two copies of this game because Im afraid Ill somehow break one. Thats how much I love it. HAHA eating candy and chocolate bars for health.
Hell yeah, and I loved the charge feature for attacks. I wont go into detail, in case people here want to play it now but haven't yet, but part of this game actually made me sad.

I am sure if I searched my brain and looked back at all the old games that I have played my entry will be different. But I am going to submit this gentleman.
I am going with Thane from Mass Effect 2 and 3. He has a slight poise about him, being that he is a highly skilled assassin. I hate how things ended up working out for him in Mass Effect 3..

I have only been able to play up to the point where Commander Shepard meets up with him in the Hospital to find out that Bane is sick and can't come on the mission.
..there is just something classy about this guy. The way he talks, the way he carries himself. It's just awesome.

My favorite would have to be Locke Cole from Final Fantasy III (Final Fantasy VI). Final Fantasy was my introduction to the Final Fantasy series and Locke made this game enjoyable for me. He's a thief who can be bad ass and has the biggest heart. He does everything he can to save his girl (even after the world is destroyed and turned upside down). He keeps his promises and he was funny too. He was always my favorite out of the whole series and I think he will always continue to be because of the connection I have with the game itself.
