To get high off of other people smoking, you'd have to be sitting in on a serious jamaican smoking session in a janitor's closet, for a whole hour.
I smoke everyday, i'm not stuggling through life, or flipping burgers and I'm definitely not any less intelligent for it. Weed is about as tame as drugs get, its like the "wine cooler" of the drug world.
My buddy is getting his masters in chemistry and he puts me to shame with his bong clearing abilities, yet he still gets paid money to go to school and spread the mass index of knowledge he has accumlated throughout his "failure to launch" life .
Sure weed mixed with other factors (which is prolly that your husbands friends were not exactly model civilians or go getters)can lead to a less than successul life, but lets not put all the blame on the weed. In fact most of the blame should be heaved upon the person for allowing themselves to settle for less than they deserve.

Also, Kidd- if you need a drug to keep you in your marriage- maybe you're in the wrong marriage.

I don't think you have any right to say that to anyone.

Kidd's one of my best friends. I know a lot more about his life than anyone else on these forums. And I have the right to my opinion, which is that a marriage shouldn't require drugs to keep you from leaving.

My apologies, I didn't know you knew him on a personal level.

This.

It is entirely possible to maintain a productive lifestyle while partaking in the recreational use of marijuana. I grew up with Evol and most of his friends that Melissa is referring to were my friends as well and there were a lot more things to factor in as to why some of them are still stuck in dead-end lifestyles. The main factor being alcohol. Most of then were or still are harder drinkers than smokers.

As with any intoxicant, moderation is key. There's plenty of far worse things you could spend your time with. You never hear about anyone overdosing on marijuana and you never hear about a grower blowing their house up like a meth lab. I definitely don't believe that young teens should smoke because they're still naive and most don't understand the concept of moderation. It can often lead to them making stupid decisions.

Oh, yeah, I do. And I realize that his comment is really general to someone who doesn't know him, so it makes sense what you said.

He knows that I <3 both him and his wife- but I think taking drugs to deal with your problems is running away from them. At some point, you have to deal with them outright or they'll eat you up.

But you see, that's just it. Marijuana can be described as a drug only very, very loosely. It's kind of like how Pluto got kicked out of the planet club? I feel like weed should be dubbed a "dwarf drug", because of how little bad it does. Now, I'm not gonna sit here and pretend to be a drug expert, because I'm not, far from it. But from what I know and others have told me, most every other drug has to be cooked or concocted in some diabolical lab in someones basement to actually produce it. Weed, on the other hand, is found in the ground. Should you happen to light it on fire, you get hungry and tired. My point is, I personally don't feel that weed changes you significantly enough to be described as a drug. To me, that word sounds so, rough, for lack of a better word.

Well that's what I flat out said in my earlier post, dude. CS just likes to think he can go up against me all the time, and never reads my entire posts, just picks and chooses what to pick at. He came in, saw that I posted something, ignored EVERYONE ELSE'S posts, and went after me.

This is what I said

Quote by Melissa Evol:

The "failure to launch" may not directly be caused by the marijuana- bad decisions beget bad decisions, I guess.

Drinking too much, partying too much, quitting your job to party (I'm looking at YOU Evol, lol) letting the desire to never grow up take over your life and shape your future- those are all bad decisions. Those will all stunt you, and stop you from achieving your full potential.

The marijuana obviously didn't CAUSE that, but the effects would also be stronger on people predisposed to be like that. You can't say that it's completely blameless in these circumstances either.

But as I said, abuse of alcohol is another bad decision people make, and that's something that is considered their right to do. Yes, I'm married to Evol, who did smoke it, drink heavily, smoke tobacco, and pretty much everything bad he could do to his body. Obviously he didn't die from it, it DID screw up his priorities, but he's gotten his life under control, and we have a great life now. I'm not saying "If you smoke pot, you're destined to be a failure, divorce over and over, have a bunch of kids you never see" etc... I'm saying that it's a contributing factor, like all mind altering substances.

I'm not arguing against the legalization of it, I just feel the effects of using are often glamorized by proponents for it. Just like I support abortion rights, but I can list off health problems and complications that can be caused by it, and I'm not about to go out and get a bunch.

And Grenade, I'm not a health teacher- go educate yourself on the effects of THC before you say there aren't any. Is it meth? No. Is it a drug? Yes. If it didn't do anything besides make you hungry and tired, no one would care if it was legal or not.

Have you ever smoked it, Melissa?

drinking has more harmful side effects and has caused more deaths then weed. you rarely see someone high killing someone in a car accident, but it happens all the time when drinking and driving. Yet one is illegal and one is legal. The reasons why weed was originally made illegal is ridiculous, and "reefer madness" has continued by alcohol and tobacco companies to maximize their own profits. Legalization would bring much needed revenue to the country instead of quite simply drug dealers.

I don't understand the "higher than something" attitude, I'm pretty open minded and a person's choices are their own, unless it is detrimental to another person, in which case it must obviously be rectified.

I don't see why it shouldn't be legalized, besides the view that someone doesn't like it, but that's personal choice and you don't have to smoke it instantly once it is legal, we can cut out the sending marijuana smokers and actual criminals to jail. well IMO.

Nope. I've never had AIDS either, but I know the consequences.

Oh yes, the consequences are very severe. Such horrible things as dry mouth, rapid heartbeat, loss of coordination and balance, slower reaction time, red eyes, and an extremely increased sense of humor. I understand you feel strongly about this this topic, but I think I have just a bit more experience in this matter than I'm letting on, mainly within my family. Do I advocate weed? Yes and no. I myself enjoy things a lot more while using it, but I don't want anyone to start doing "drugs". It really is not as bad as your making it sound.

Honestly, I could go toe-to-toe with Melissa all day, trading posts back and forth but I won't get anywhere. I've already stated my opinion, and I'm gonna keep smoking it regardless. Maybe you and Evol should smoke a bowl pack and then we'll see how you feel about it after that.
