I would love to walk in there tomorrow and place my resignation upon their desk. I want them to rue the day they screwed with me, but not with the use of violence, and rather with words they'll never forget and shovin my future successes in their faces when they have a menial desk job…still.
Just don't forget what Bill Gates said about effort.
I forget what that was. Details please?

These are a few of my favorites by Bill Gates -
Life is not fair; get used to it.
If you think your teacher is tough, wait until you get a boss. He doesn't have tenure.
Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you find yourself.
Television is not real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.
Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life has not. In some schools they have abolished failing grades; they'll give you as many chances as you want to get the right answer. This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING.

Bill Gates is a college dropout. He's never worked at a job just to pay bills or doing something he didn't enjoy- and only barely has worked for anyone else. Quoting him about real life is like quoting Hitler about religious tolerance. He's also an elitist asshole who promotes population control through vaccines that also sterilize- and has partnered with companies in Africa that "vaccinated" children at gun point. Hypocritically, he has 4 children himself. Because, you know, the rich don't leave a carbon footprint.
He's a huge promoter of eugenics, which is a joke because if the government was creating super people and choosing who to allow to procreate or not, chances are he wouldn't exist.
But ummm... Yeah- motivational quotes there. Really makes me want to get out there and... Do stuff. Or whatever. Carry on.

Has anyone read any of the Halo novels?
All of them. The Flood was horrible the rest of them were pretty well written.

The Halo books are awesome. Especially if you are a Halo fan. I own and have read them all.

My wife bought me Halo: Fall of Reach as a Valentines Day gift and I'm looking forward to reading it!
This is the only Halo novel I have read and it was surprisingly well-written.

Bill Gates is a college dropout ... (diatribe)
So, from your pointedly facetious rant, we can safely assume you value a standardized certification granted through an outdated and primarily money-based lower class education system masquerading as "academia" more than a prosperous career involving more money than J. K. Rowling, new & 'better' technology, and the very Xbox console we game on? ![:nerd:](https://xboxamerica.com/imgs/smilies/old-squares/nerd.gif)
I don't care much about Bill G myself but if it came down to it, I would say to hell with a college degree; I'd rather have a bazookillion dollars and my own Windows 8 Surface that I helped design.

Well nobody is disputing that he is successful, fiscally anyway. She's just saying that he is not a pillar of morality.

There was nothing facetious about my rant until the end
. My point was that Mo was giving some quotes from him about college vs the real world, and I'm saying he's not qualified to comment on what either college OR the real world is like because he's involved with neither. Just because bad behavior doesn't negate success doesn't make the bad behavior causal to success.
Do I think college degrees should be needed for working at any job- including retail these days? Nope, and I've said as much before. College degrees are meaningless pieces of paper now that anyone can stumble to class for 4 years and get one. Unfortunately, that's just what life is now. But back when Bill Gates was in college, it was still for the intellectually elite, and he couldn't stick with it. He can't talk about hard work and effort when all he did was play with computers instead of going to class in high school, then drop out of college, mess around with computers some more (which he has said was not work for him) and start a company. He's always had money to back him, his parents, his school, the other people who helped him found MS... He never had to work at McDonald's to scrape money together to get his dream business launched.
Bill Gates is nothing special- he's just a computer nerd that got rich because he came before there were a ton of computer nerds. If he had been born 30 years later, he'd be just another ugly dude who drops out of college to play on the computer more. He's lucky- he right place right timed a lot of his life. And the fact that he doesn't see that, and praise god or fate or whatever he believes in, but instead decides that he should in fact be on some committee to decide who lives and who dies- and who has enough money to procreate- pisses me off to no end.
